I finally broke the ice...

After years of talking about submitting coins to both PCGS or NGC but not ever doing it; I finally did and got the ball rolling.
Sent in my 1921-D to NGC, which is the crown jewel of my set. It was already in an NGC MS 64 slab.
While it was in there; I had them clean up the distractions---tiny carbon spot in the center of the date near the rim and strange residue toning above the flag, which resembled graffiti. There apparently was a small fly speck of PVC that I was unaware of, so they addressed that, too. They only gently treated the affected areas, so the amazing luster was left in tact. Now, the coin is stable and tight and even more eye appealing to me.
I also had them re-grade it but they left it at MS 64, as it likely has a few too many light abrasions and lines for a MS 65. However, I was told that it was probably the nicest MS 64 that I could find and that I should be proud of it.
They also took some high resolution slab shots for me that I have posted. I don't think that they do the coin justice, though. The lighting that they use, now, is different and more diffuse than before and not as complimentary. Someday, I would like to have this coin imaged by someone like a Bob Campbell or a Justin Lee, in order to capture it's true essence.
Now, I can sit back, relax and really enjoy this coin.

Beautiful coin. Strike looks to be rather complete. I can see why it's the jewel of your Walker Family.
How much better can it get than a MS64 '21D Walker for a Walkerfan?
I sold my 34-47 MS64 set because of coins like yours....I knew I could NEVER keep up with my ambition of getting MS coins in the realm that you have reached.
WOW! What a specimen to "break the ice" with! Exceptional 21 D Walker!!
They did a good job on the coin. Very nice indeed.
Awesome !!!
Bean candidate for sure!
Looks like a nice conservation job that didn't go overboard. Congrats on having such a sweet 21-D.
that is super nice coin.
If those are the after pics I'd say that they should at least be commended for not simply chucking it in a tub of dip. Tough to tell it has been conserved.
Before and after pics would be helpful.
Latin American Collection
That's a hell of a coin.
That is a really nice WLH...My kind of coin.... The WLH is truly one of America's finest coin designs. Cheers, RickO
Beautiful! Geez, one really, really tough WLH. A centerpiece coin.
Any ‘before’ pics?

My avatar is a before picture but it's not a fair comparison, as the lighting styles are quite diffferent.

Lovely coin! They really did a good job with the conservation, too. Congrats.
That is one gorgeous coin! I can see why you are so proud of it. I'm glad you made the right choice in getting it conserved. They did an excellent job. I've heard of some horror stories about getting coins conserved. Nice job...
A superb looking piece. Well done my coin brother
Just curious why you sent it to ngc instead of PCGS? Beautiful Walker.
Love it!!!
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
This seems like a provoking comment to me and I don't want to start a big debate here but I never shy away from questions and this was my thinking:
It is already in NGC 64 plastic and I didn't want to lose that 64 grade.
Also, I have seen examples of both service's work and ngc's seem to fit my needs better.
NGC has been doing it longer, so I felt they had more experience.
I also know a key person who works for NGC, so I felt more comfortable dealing with him, as conservation is a risky proposition, and I didn't want my coin ending up in a lower grade or a Genuine slab. He walked me through the process and gave me very Frank and honest advice, which made my decision making a little easier.
I Can always crossover later now that conservation is done but that's unlikely, as I don't really play the plastic game.
I really like both major services and I am more about the coins rather than the holders.

What a nice coin. I agree with the 64 grade, reverse looks about flawless, so a 64+ would not shock me.
If it were my coin, I would send to CAC now that the PVC is gone, which would have held it back, and try for the sticker. I would then send to PCGS for a cross, only because of the increase in value on key dates like this.
If it crossed, back to CAC with the old NGC label included, and get the sticker put right back on.
Sounds like a lot of trouble but will add 5K to the coin just like that, if it works out.
Thanks, guys, for all the great comments. I really appreciate it. The coin still looks very lustrous and it's stable now, too. I will be sending this one to CAC, eventually.
