A cool NewP.... Southern Gold.

Every once in a while I find myself opening too many e-mails. This is especially true on certain Tuesday mornings and whenever a handful of other dealers put out a post-show offering. I've been perusing Doug Winter's site with more regularity and as I contemplate working deeper into early gold to round out my US type set, the connection is a logical (and enjoyable) one.

One of my desires is to have at least one coin from each mint. So far I've got everything covered (even a "W" Rosie) except for Dahlonega, Charlotte, and for some reason New Orleans. The small branch mints are certainly a challenge, especially on a budget as the majority of what is offered isn't really all that nice. When it is nice, it's ridiculously expensive. Then this one showed up. I was lucky enough to call before it had disappeared and soon it was on its way. Doug is so very nice to work with! It may not be the nicest possible no-motto half eagle I could afford for a representative of type but it would be rather difficult to find one that is more interesting. Yes the strike is soft, yes, yes, yes..... Southern charm!
