What a haul and Hull! The Rocket is just amazing for the grade! Near perfect centering nice corners. I'd take a little faded printing on that card over a lot of the 8s. And the $8k too! Great cards!

The centering on that Russell is supernatural. It is downright Powerball-esque. Congrats, that is a legendary example.

Happy New Year from Mars!

While it's been a pretty amazing year for acquisitions, notably some Mars Attacks and Superman cards to further the sets past the halfway point, along with some great Dodgers stuff (hopefully next year brings that elusive World Series victory), the best pick-up just happened the other day.

Have always been a vintage wrapper aficionado, specifically those of the hockey variety. These cards were issued in much smaller quantities than the other 3 sports, and in some cases, less than 5 wrappers from a given year are known to exist. Needless to say, a tough chase!

I had an opportunity to acquire a near complete run of Topps and OPC hockey wrappers from a great hobby friend, which included a very tough 62-63, a 54-55 with the bazooka gum insert, every OPC series with variations, and best of all, this insanely rare 59-60 issue -

What made this deal so special, aside from the sheer excitement in picking it up, was how it happened - the old fashioned way. A deal with a hobby buddy, meeting up for an amazing lunch to make it happen, with great conversation about family, life, sports, and collectables. Although the internet has made it much easier to find the things we're looking for, there's something to be said for the comradery we share in whatever part of the hobby we occupy. One of the reasons card shows continue to be so much fun. Great cards and great people in the same room!

For me, 2017 will always be remembered: for the boyish joy that was watching and collecting Aaron Judge, and for finding this dream 1957 Mantle. In hand, it is just surreal. Had to do a black background scan.

Almost all of my pickups revolve around the Yankees - and I have posted two of these recently. But since this thread is awesome, I'll add my top 3 pickups to it and hope you appreciate seeing mine half as much as I appreciate getting to see all your amazing items, fellas.

1935 Wheaties - Series 1 - Lou Gehrig (Not flawless but I've never seen a frame this full for sale; presently at SGC.)

1951 Wheaties Premium Photo - Mickey Mantle 'G' (One of my favorite items ever produced with his image on it. Rare and beautiful.)

1936 New York Yankees Baseball Team Official Photo by Thorne (Printed in 1936, but still not sure if that makes it Type I or Type II because of my own ignorance I think that because Thorne took the photo and this is from the original negative it's possibly Type I but I am pretty sure that the added text makes it Type II. Again, I am just not sure. I will be sending to PSA for their opinion in 2018. I'm posting two different shots, the second a closeup of Lou and young Joe.)

@ReggieCleveland Thanks! I happen to really love the whole set (that's probably obvious). For what it's worth, I have a little thread I created about the set going in the PSA Registry forum. I like to write, I like baseball history and obviously the cards and memorabilia that go with it so when the mood strikes I add to the thread.

Oh this is the 1985 Court kings set, there's actually 50 cards in the set. I self submitted these 7 to get down to 2 left now.

I find the set is interesting in signed form as these are larger 5x7" cards so can present a nice large signature. It's of course most known for having the pre rookie cards of Jordan, Barkley, Olajuwon, and the Jordan card I consider one of his two best looking cards.

I certainly can't compete with some of the tremendous pickups noted here. I forget who used to say "I'm on a budget and not afraid to use it." I say "I'm on Social Security and not afraid to spend a bit of it on cards I had when I was a kid." I made several purchases of mid grade 54s, a Hank Aaron and an Ernie Banks PSA certified auto. I picked up these upgrades to my 1960 PSA 8 or better set.

I also picked up the final cards to have the set complete in any grade. I have two 1960 sets in the registry. One is all 8s or better. I need 25 to finish the set. I have another set of duplicates and cards in grades less than 8. I have all 25 needed in grades less than 8. This year my goal is to upgrade six more.

Forgot about a modern one I pulled this year and at the time had no idea who he was. Stuck him him in a sleeve and top loader and set him back. A few months later as I was checking through cards I saw he was a top prospect and subbed him at the National. Holding this one until he hits the bigs next year.

The Bellinger is still raw and will submit in the spring.

KC - the Brown is a mindblower. So clean with virtually no snow. Bold color and the black is BLACK. More of a 9 than a 8.

No question that is an amazing Brown rookie. Not only corners and centering but like you mentioned no snow. Plus the focus is good which is hard to find in that issue. Also, I think the Mario should have been a 10.5 - great card.

The '58 Brown RC is exceptional...as has been noted...there is a detail in his facial features...very uncommon! One of the best Brown RCs I have seen...deserving of a bump!
