You might laugh at my favorite coin/medal (So-Called Dollar) right now, but it has to do with the fact I just acquired the book and bible which historian Nolie Mumey issued at the same time to commemorate the Pony Express and are tough to find in pristine condition (medal is pretty common, the book is getting harder to find and the bible is near impossible). The complete set, at least to me, is pretty neat.
My (current) favorite raw US coin--It was last one I needed for the gold page in my 7070, and I promised myself one once I retired from the Navy. Took about three years to make good on that promise, but last time in Baltimore (Spring last year) I finally got one. Did a bullion trade, and it was kind of funny. The gentleman selling it to me really made a face when I bought a green beaned PCGS slab and told him I was cracking it for the album. But I did it. Now in all its raw glory:
As for something nice...well there are loads of helpful, educational, supportive, and fantastic people on the boards. I will do a throwback though. He hasn't been active here for a few years, but I'm calling out Roy/ @satootoko. When I very first made an account here it was to ask him questions about Japanese coins and he was very instrumental in helping out the newbie. Corresponded many times over a decade, and even met him IRL (in Japan to go to a coin shop of course!). Had tons of advice though we had different opinions on the merits of 'tarnish'. Wish I could show him how my collection has grown.
While the majority of my stuff is slabbed for my registry sets, I do like to pick up raw coins at shows and elsewhere. Sometimes I try to get them graded, others go into a 'fun box' This is an example from a recent Philly vacation trip, I posted it sometime back:
As for members on this forum, there are way too many good ones to mention, far outnumber the handful of true duds on here. So I'll mention @lkeigwin for his amazing bust halves, it's what eye appeal and collecting is all about.

I received this 1827 Bust half for my 11th birthday on December 28, 1976. It is one of only two coins that remain from my childhood collection.

I have been on the receiving end of so much generosity and kindness on these forums over the last 16 years that it's difficult to single any one member out. Some fine folks like @CarlWohlforth are no longer with us.
If I had to single one person out this time around, it would be @Mark, who has encouraged me in my numismatic writing and even extended my ANA membership so I would contribute some articles to The Numismatist. At present I have not yet kept that promise, but I haven't forgotten it, either. (That might be a good New Year's resolution for me, eh, Mark?)
PS- ditto to the @ricko comments, for the reason others posted. Ricko can be counted on to comment, and almost always positively, even when nobody else seems interested.
My favorite raw U.S. coin that I own, one of the storied San Francisco minted Paquet Reverse Double Eagles, none of which are known to have survived in mint state.
I always enjoy Bill Jones's posts. I have learned a lot from his shared experiences. An added treat was the holiday thread he initiated that added a bit of holiday cheer. I especially appreciated the homage he payed to his father in creating a scene in the shared holiday village. It turns out I likely saw the huge wreath his dad created when I visited Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes as a preschooler back in the early 1950s. Here is Bill's commentary:
"My father was known as “Jones, the Holly Wreath Man.” His company manufactured holly, russcus and lycopodium wreaths and shipped to locations all over the United States. He took over the business from his father and expanded it to a much larger scale. One year he custom made a wreath that was 20 feet in diameter that hung on the front of the Radio City Music Hall. Another year his company supplied the wreaths that hung in the background for The Ed Sullivan Show. He made a really good living at it from the mid 1940s until the late 1950s."

The Smithsonian wouldn't let me borrow it, though, so I had to set up in front of their display and shoot through the glass.

While i dont have any US coins, raw or slabbed, I would like to give a shout out to Andy Lustig @MrEureka for being a knowledgeable and approachable numismatist and dealer.
We have many fine folks participating, difficult to single any out, but must note that both BryceM and TommyType post comments that I almost always agree with in content and tone, but also their style of writing is typically very similar to mine (when I take time to think and write well), such that, often, I don't need to say what they said, again, I can just use the Agree or Like feature of the new forum software. Thanks guys, for saving me the typing time!
