Try for higher grade or leave in old holder?

This coin currently resides in a green label MS-65 holder. Would it grade higher today?

I really like that one. Nice photo. I’d leave her alone.

That's a beauty. Seems a shame to lose the rattler holder. If you're interested in selling it, the color would likely fetch close to or right at 66 money either way.

  • 291fifth291fifth Posts: 24,707 ✭✭✭✭✭

It is probably undergraded by current standards. Eye-appeal is high and the holder is desirable to many. I would just leave it as is. Unless you are planning on selling it soon there is no good reason to spend more money on having it reslabbed. Make any decision on reslabbing based on market conditions at the time you plan to actually sell.

If you WANT to sell it AND the next grade up is a significant price jump, then yes.
Otherwise keep it as is, or try CAC as others suggested.

Not enough upside advantage as MS66 coins are not worth that much over $200; the money would be in a possible cac gold sticker with professional photography.

Get the gold sticker and sell it to CRO! :D

The coin is a beauty. Leave alone and let the buyer pay MS-66+ money for it because he is going to crack it! Besides, it is stable. No telling what will happen while it is out of your hands being graded again.

  • TreashuntTreashunt Posts: 6,747 ✭✭✭✭✭

    A real beauty.

If anything, try for a gold CAC

if you aren't selling it just wait , in ten years send it in for the 68+ and then get whatever new color bean that is higher than gold.

  • jtlee321jtlee321 Posts: 2,365 ✭✭✭✭✭

That Morgan is stunning!! I'd absolutely leave it where it is and send to CAC in hopes of getting a gold CAC. You'd then have the trifecta of premiums, (a) Rattler holder, (b) Rainbow toned and (c) CAC with a shot at gold. Those three would add up to far more than a new holder will get you.

  • CommemKingCommemKing Posts: 2,202 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looks properly graded from the photo. A little scuff on the cheek. no way I would crack it.

Kitten Killer BillJones, Your AU58 Rattler would have sold at MS63 monies most likely anyway so it was no real gain.

I'd leave it alone. Looks properly graded and the old holder is nice. I don't think that there's a huge price jump to 66, anyway.

Looks like a reconsideration candidate. I don't really like rattler holders, so that's probably the route I'd go. For the quick sale, however, I'd leave it, and maybe try to get a bean for it. A green bean sends the message, "I don't think this should upgrade," to potential buyers, though. Too bad the toning is on the reverse, since the money side for toning is the obverse.

  • keyman64keyman64 Posts: 15,546 ✭✭✭✭✭

What crypto said...and others. Leave it alone. CAC if you must do anything. The holder and toning is where it's at. Nice coin.

No in the time frame that I sold it. The upgrade more than paid for itself circa 2001.

Terrific coin. Leave as is. If grading is that important to you or if you plan to sell, then CAC makes sense. And I say that mainly because of the color.

It’s a nice 65 - about a $ 160 coin. Try get it in their newest holder and c if can upgrade. To many marks on cheek a 65 IMO.

Don’t c the point of these speculation threads. Just send it in ......and find out.

I would definitely leave it alone.

An old holder often influences a buyer into thinking the coin MUST grade higher.

Im not a rattler fan but I would assume a trip to CAC would be the first course of action before regrade.
