How many slabs in your collection?
I've often wondered if the additional storage space required by slabs, as compared to raw coins, causes people to collect fewer coins. Please respond to the poll and share any relevant thoughts.

This is a very interesting poll.......I go for quality over quantity. The average cost of the coins in my set is well over $3000. Even still; I am working on my fifth box of 20, so I will have 100 pretty soon.

Other than medals and a few early rolls (commons), everything is slabbed.

I only have 4 slabbed coins, but I have over 2,000 PSA graded Nolan Ryan cards and they take up a lot of room for sure.

Edited to add: At one time I did have 13 PCGS first generation slabs for my 13 gold type coins. That would have been over 25 years ago.

According to my always correct(?!) database, I just crossed the 300 mark with 301 slabs. (Which, to be honest, kind of surprised me).
My definition of a "type set" kind of expands as I go....so I probably shouldn't be surprised.

Maybe a better question would be what percentage of your collection is slabbed.

Closer to 500 than 100.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?4 -

I don't know exactly, but probably have 60 or 70 slabbed coins altogether now.
And about that many inserts from coins I've cracked out of slabs and still own.

Less is more for my comfort level since it would make me nervous having so much cash tied up in coins (assuming a slabbed coin has at least $300 of value each). Obviously, it is proportional to one's net worth, but I couldn't stomach a massive collection.

Lots of low value coins have been slabbed.
The bulk of my collection will never visit the TPGs, not that they are worthless.

I believe it is under 100.... far more that are not slabbed - AGE's, ASE's, GSA's....buckets of wheaties, couple drawers of Buffs, Commem's in 2x2's, albums, etc., etc., .... Never actually counted my slabs. Cheers, RickO

Only one, so far. All others are inventory. Oh but if I could have kept what I’ve dealt already... It would be an incomplete registry set splintering into many areas, consisting of several boxes of 20. And if I chased what I really love.... I’d be on a golf course.

The extra space needed to accommodate slabs is a little annoying, but it has never discouraged me from adding items to my collection.
Now a different way to ask this question would be whether or not the additional space required to store slabs has encouraged collectors to sell coins in their collection.

There's something magical about holding one of those filled with coins.
