Gold is pretty and pretty is as pretty does. That pretty much sums it up.
Then again, the day will come when a loaf of bread is valued more than gold. Oh wait... that time already came and went.

simple way to speculate with bitcoin

And remember, bitcoin is a currency (digital) not a precious metal.

    Will BitCoins still be bits?

All is in flux. I don't believe boom-bust precedents apply. I, too, prefer gold, but more out of an inclination to cling to the familiar than to the unknown.

I'll play the contrarian. I expect bitcoin to be worth twice as much as 2 AGE's in 5 years.
And I expect that folks will still be knocking it.

Edit to add prices June 4, 2017.
    Gold $1280.
    BTC $2600.

It'll be fun to check back in 5 years! I hope they are both through the roof.

"Which do you think will be worth more 5 years from now?"

No one knows. Cryptocurrencies are uncharted water. Governments can outlaw them (e.g. China), but there doesn't appear to be a way to control them. That appears to have been the basis for the efforts among the Chinese to acquire them (and why the government outlawed them).

Bitcoin no doubt. Probably at least 20X as much as gold price in 5 years. But by that time the US Dollar price won't matter because of hyperinflation. All that will matter is the value of what you're holding against what things are worth to everyone.
Bitcoin to be over 8X the USD price of gold now by spring of next year.

How does one purchase a Bitcoin ? It’s easier finding an ounce or ten of gold. The mining is already done.

Well, you'd have to have bought some bitcoin before right now, wouldn't you, in order to have any to sell?

Unless you're suggesting you'd short sell them?

Tread lightly. Both Coinbase and Localbitcoins have lots of harsh reviews (as do lots of other analogous sites). It's really the Wild West out there!

The gold, please. Cryptocurrencies can still maintain privacy, but if you are robbed/hacked, you really have little recourse. Of course, there's also the issue of a possible bubble...

Still going with the AGEs. Silver bugs constantly point to Silver/Gold ratio as reason to invest in silver over gold: "Historically High Silver/Gold ratio!!!". Well guess what: we can now do the same thing with Gold/Bitcoin ratio: "Historically High Gold/Bitcoin ratio!!! BUY GOLD!" :D

don't care anything about it, and don't understand it entirely, although a customer who came in last week, probably explained it better than anybody else I have talked too in the past.

Bitcoin will be worth 10 1 age in the very near future. My customer has literally become philthy rich trading it since its inception. and the boy is only about 30

Still ain't too late folks. The ship is still loading, hadn't taken off yet. 2018 will be full steam ahead.
You don't HAVE to buy Bitcoin. A lot of other ones are going to do VERY well also. Litecoin (LTC) as an example.
