80% of Palladium is used in cars, expected to go to 0 in 5-10 years. I want one of these but long term it could be a dog if it follows the metal or a deal because of the mintage. Who knows? Most Platinum is used in diesel vehicles (I believe), but Platinum also has a long term history in jewelry...I'm not buying that either.

Yes that was interesting. It was at $1221 10 minutes ago and now it is up to the high price. Which makes sense compared all the other NGC and PCGS 70s.

It is interesting going back to this original thread when the coin was yet to be released. And then around September 25 when and you could pre buy it and predictions were being made.

Prior years MS69 coins become mostly "scrap" at this point. MS70's have great potential if they were actually hard to make in the first place. Anyone think there will only be 1 or 2 MS70 of these 2017 Palladium coins as there were with 1997 first year platinum coins??Could I be dead wrong - of course, But, total coins I bought today - 0. I may pick up some 70's if and when I get an order for some. Or, if and when Palladium spot goes down (if it does).

I think Wondercoin's point is that this follows the progression of Platinum Eagles. Remember when those used to be good? Some of those Platinum coins are downright SCARCE!!! But no one wants them.
The 1997 platinum coin sold 176,000 (all sizes) UNC and 90,000 (all sizes) proofs.
In 1998, those numbers went to 244,000 UNC and 64,000 proofs.
And then...
1999 - 185,000 UNC and 56,000 proofs
2000 - 83,000 UNC and 51,000 proofs
By 2007 they were down to 35,000 UNC and 47,000 PROOF
2008 - 75,000 UNC and 17,000 PROOF
then the wheels came off. The eliminated fractionals
2009 - No UNCs and 8,000 proof
2010 - NO UNCS and 10,000 proofs
etc.These days, they do 20,000 UNCS and generally around 5,000 proofs.
And the secondary market is pathetic on these. The UNCs are $50 to $100 over spot. Wholesale is spot.
Was this a great flip? Yes. But anyone who put this in their collection will probably see the premium shrink significantly in coming years.

Bestday: My post clearly states that the possible mintage progression in my view would be as stated "if it followed platinum". One question will be whether it does follow platinum or, for some reason, is completely different.
I also stated that I would pick up graded 70 coins if my customers asked me for them and I did, I am not sure the coin "doubled in 12 days". They came out around $1,250 - $1,300 for 70FS) and as of a day or two ago, there were coins available for well under $2,500/coin - right? Heck, I just read that Apmex priced some in the $1,650 - $1,900/coin range. When I bought my last batch of 70FS for my customers last week I left coins behind well below that range as well.
That said, the coin has performed very nicely out of the box and has likely exceeded the expectations of most (including myself) or I assume they would not have priced the coins where they did in the first place.
As always, just my 2 cents.

Someone posted earlier about it it looking like a finning had folded over or something on the rim. One of my raws had that today tool. I touched it with a qtip and it flaked off, lol. Wonder if it still has a shot at a 70??

I bet almost every one of these gets graded. The APs probably have limits on what they can sell them for raw and I imagine the early coins graded were mainly to cover grading costs with a little juice. Now that they are hot, the TPG’s are seeing the rest in inventory from the APs.
Although the prices may stabilize, I imagine the populations will rise substantially.

I am in communication with a dealer selling several label types of this Palladium Eagle.
Everything being the same, which label would you guys (or gals) perceived to be more collectible?
- a NGC FDOI MS70 or
- a PCGS FS MS70 for $50 more?
After this resolution, I just need to find a way to hide the credit bill from my wife...

I just found 5 raw and 5 graded by PCGS-69 for the $1530 or some thing like that ea at Liberty coins. They have some others but I think they are around the asking price on the bay.
