Previously it was completing a high grade set of all of the major Washington 25c doubled dies, nearly all of which were cherrypicked. Sold that set. Now it's assembling my complete set of Buff 5c proofs 1913-1937 + the 1/4 oz 2008 Buffalo gold. Some of those were cherrypicked, too-couldn't have afforded 'em otherwise.

I'm really good at MAKING goals...not particularly good at completing them. I have too many, most have "stoppers", and they are too varied. (Not to say I'm not having FUN!)

Guess the one non-trivial goal I did complete was a full, raw, uncirculated set of Franklin Halves. Good learning experience from my early days....

Fulfilled my childhood dream to own the coin that I want. I saw one (VF) available when I was 30. I can't afford it. I saw another five years later but its hammered price was more than my house value. Finally, I bought one (Ch VF) 16 years later.

I suppose, in order to keep this more numismatically related, I would guess that the most significant goal that I have accomplished is to assemble a matching set of the four (4) known die marriages for the 1800 Draped Bust half dime, which included two R7 die marriages at the time (LM-2 and LM-4), in F-15 to VF-30 grade. At the time I was only the third collector to do so.

I began collecting Detroit Civil War Store Card tokens (CWTs) in the 1980s upon discovering that my great-great grandfather Wm. Perkins, Jr. of Detroit issued two of these tokens, one for the Perkins Hotel and the other for his grocery and provision business (connected to the hotel building).

In April 2002 the Cliff Temple Collection of Michigan CWTs was sold at public Auction by Heritage Auctions. I was the winning bidder for the "Seth Smith" Store Card which had been discovered and purchased by Temple in 1933, and had been held in his collection for almost 80 years. I had to pay a small fortune for it, but I completed the set of all of the Detroit issues.

Here is a photo of the Seth Smith CWT which is graded NGC AU50. And a Perkins Hotel CWT struck in Copper, graded NGC MS65 BN.

Having a high grade complete FE/IHC collection with varieties.

This was pre-registry era and when the registry came along, it was the #1 IHC w/varieties collection.

Maybe not significant but my favorite accomplishment was completing the entire Lincoln wheat penny series from circulation. Except for the 1914-D. I bought that one in a low grade to match everything else. Oh, and the 1922 no "D." I always figured that one didn't count. The 1909-S V.B.D., found it on top of the refrigerator. I was really excited. Until I found out it was a fake. I don't care. It's still a 1909-S V.D.B., either way. Maybe I should think this thing through a little more. Still.....it's my favorite accomplishment. Pitiful, but true.

I've got the collection of coins that my 11 year old self dreamed of building (with some sense of realistic expectations) highlights include

One complete Dansco 7070 type set album with gold page, XF to proof, another partial in progress..

A selection of 1795-1812 type coins in all 3 metals..

A set of 1805 - 1828 quarters by die variety almost complete, making progress on the die states, too..

A Redbook set of 1801-1807 halves almost complete, with some better varieties including an R7 (4 now known) marriage that used a new, previously undescribed obverse die, that i discovered in 2003..

And enough other commoner coins of all subsectors to set a fine table at a show, or open a store on ebay, if i ever find the time...

Also, I have completed TWO, Jefferson nickel sets, 1938 to date from circulation. The 1939-D and the 1950-D, No problem! At the time I didn't even know they were anything special. Same with all the silver Roosevelt dimes. It was a snap. Still those pennies. That's my favorite. Now I have to go back outside and bust some knuckles on the old 1976 Silverado. Why won't it crank? HELP!

My circulated mercury dime set with major varieties was a big one for me.
The 42/41 d was the last one. Only took 20+ years.
But then I came on this message board and found lakesammman's posts on slab generations and did my walker/slab set. That was challenging and felt great to complete!!

It has to be the completion of my 9 pc Dahlonega Type Set. Took me 15 years. Yeah, I know it doesn't sound tough, but you have to take into consideration that 5 of the types are single year with all of those being very tough in AU and higher.

I have never been one to set numismatic goals.... I simply collect and enjoy my coins.... That being said, I did assemble a set of CC Morgans by year... and included the O/CC.....so that was sort of a goal. Cheers, RickO

I enjoy the journey with no finish line. Have a fairly good 1795 and 1801-1807 half dollar die variety set.

By far my best numismatic accomplishment was writing the biography of the US Mint's first appointed chief engraver - Robert Scot: Engraving Liberty. Started as research in 2003 to satisfy my own curiosity, then an unpublished article that grew way too long, began writing the book in 2008, and published by American History Press in 2015. Scot's accomplishments in engraving through the American Revolution and the early US are vast and incredible, and were not previously published.

Not US but my best accomplishment is a set of British Northumbrian stycas with each moneyer represented. These are small 8th and 9th century coins, and there are 40 different moneyers that produced coins. I have all 40.

Going to shows regularly and making the effort to learn, and meet folks. I began doing this in 2013 and have gained many new friendships and contacts that have paved the way to some amazing pickups. It's a big deal when someone reaches out to you with an epic piece that you may have otherwise never had the opportunity to add to your collection!!

I have yet to accomplish my which is a date set of early quarter eagles. Been doing it of 9 years. Will likely take a few more years to complete. This thread just makes me wonder how i will feel the day i complete it. I hope i am able to.

Every regular issue non gold U.S. coin for the 20th Century by date and mint. I know this has been done by other collectors but I have never met anyone else who has.
