Here is the front of the slab. The only reason way a type or Liberty Seated collector would not like this coin is the deep original toning. Some people like their coins to white or more lightly toned.

This coin is an excellent example of a piece that has never been dipped or cleaned in its 157 years of existence. It is a rare example of that because many older coins like this can turn black or spotty. The luster under the toning is complete and unbroken.

I will hazard a guess of PCGS MS64. Pretty piece.

    64 would be my guess.

Well no rub on the right facing talon this time >:)

Honestly I like this coin. The gold was nice but I thought commercial. I like the pattern of the patina and the original coloration.

    I can't see wear, so I'll join the 64 chorus...since it's Bill, though either it's a 58 or bagged for some old-time cleaning. :)

I don't see any wear, and I love the original look, but I don't see the luster I'd expect, and the second image shows a lot of chatter on the obverse, so I'm at MS62.

Gut feeling MS-64, but I can't really tell from the pictures.

LOL, that's probably why the is posting a "curve ball" this time and using a nice attractive coin with a high grade he agrees with.

  • BillJonesBillJones Posts: 35,050 ✭✭✭✭✭

There are no curve balls. The coin is staight graded.

Based on posts by a member in another thread about the coins you post for GTG opinions, that's what I posted:

This is going to be a nice coin with no arguments.

Perhaps the other posters can add if they think it will CAC sticker at the grade assigned.

Was thinking between AU58 and 64, before I looked. Strike looks different almost like a proof, but what do I know....

  • SoldiSoldi Posts: 2,177 ✭✭✭✭✭

AU 58 CAC nice coin, nice toning, original...........how much $$ ?? send PM

  • TomBTomB Posts: 22,380 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looks MS to me and the grade would depend heavily upon how much actual mint luster is visible underneath the skin. If it is as dark as it appears on my screen then MS63 would be the max, in my opinion, but if lighter and more obvious then I would go with MS64.

MS63 WAG (conservative) from those images, which don't show luster very well.

I think it is a 63 if the luster in the photos is accurate.

I don't see any wear on the coin, so I'll say 64.

64 if strong luster. 3 or 2 if luster weaker/weak.

  • If there are any significant hits they've toned over nicely. Look's like quite a bit of luster lurking below the toning. Very nice coin! I'll go with MS64.
