    I don't know why that coin won't cross as an AU-58, but I always feel like you have two strikes against you when you send an NGC graded coin to PCGS. That's why I always cracked them out for the up grade or the the cross if that's what the customer wanted.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals.     Lance's images show a cleaned coin. As NGC called it a 58, that tells me that the images are off. I'd have to see the coin in hand.

    Light rub on cheek, and on several hair curls, with light grazing/friction in the fields. You can get by with a hair curl or two, but not a half dozen of them. And a somewhat rounded and lustrous cheek is normally needed for unc....at least on a CBH.

    No question AU58 from the Trueviews. Apparently NGC has a high resolution option too, but not with the coin out of the holder.

    I don't know how to explain the NGC photos. If nothing else, I now know to ignore them. I can't see what purpose they serve.

    I really like the look of this coin. The luster is all there, there isn't anything distracting, detail is nice. I think the grade is correct but it's a 58 that I'd be happy to own.

    I'd give it a 1% chance it's original skin. More than likely that brownish peripheral tone is secondary toning.

    I've only seen one blast white CBH (a mid-1820's PCGS MS64) that I felt had good potential to be 100% undipped and original skin. I studied that coin for like half hour to evaluate every little "pebble" in the luster. The coin was like Mt. Everest in sharpness with no high point luster breaks...it had luster on luster with that unique field luster graininess so common to fully original gems. The only trace of tone was a small rainbow crescent along the edge of the coin's obverse from 4-6 o'clock. It had the exact look of a bag toned Morgan where such crescents are normal. I'd have bought that coin except it had a lot of obverse tics on Miss Liberty...and was no 65 shot.....the seller was asking 65 money.

    Coin looks a bit flashier in the OP ATS slab photos than the TV. Do people like a more flashier photo like the slab photos or a more muted photo like the TV?

    I would want the more "muted" image versus flashy...I can see more details (the good kind).

    NCG's imaging is a big fat joke it this case. What a BS insult of an image. NGC should be ashamed and feel bad.
    Just look at the two images. :o:#:| NGC is 2nd teir (wide gap) in grading and imaging. I always 2nd guess a high dollar coin in a NGC holder. Just like I 2nd guess a high dollar raw coin. Usually there is a reason.
    Reason: The coin couldn't make the grade at PCGS.

    No excuses for that bad of an image in or out of the holder. Bluevetcc(sp) AKA Todd has zero problems imaging NGC coins in the holder.
