I've been looking at contemporary counterfeits but haven't picked one up yet.

I bid on an 1861 CSA half a while back but it turned out to be on from much later.

@AmazonX: Nice shield nickel counterfeits. I do not have the two cancelled 1868's documented in SNV. Would you be willing to help get them included?

Here is perhaps my nicest contemporary counterfeit shield nickel:

@howards Very nice. I wish to own a counterfeit that has some luster to it.

Yup, I will be sending those to you. I already re shot them(in there photos, the left side of the image is out of focus). I retook the '69 but I wasn't too happy with them so I ordered some lightening and will retake them again.

Most contemporary counterfeits are pretty scudsy. I was very happy to get that 1874.

Thank you very much for sending me photos!

BTW, I should have included a closeup of the date of the 1874. The 7 is over... something? Since the date is hand-carved, who knows what the counterfeiter was thinking!

@howards that 7 is...interesting. Maybe they were trying to do an 8?

speechless... in a way. Have seen all sort of Counterfeits of Canadian coins. Most from the PRoC.
All these above are, for the untrained eye, probably real.
If anyone posts more, would it be possible to note the CF markers so us "dark sides" can also recognize these?
    thanks

    Question:
what does US currency law say about counterfeit US money?
In Canada even possession is illegal and is a criminal offense. Even items marked copy or similar is considered a counterfeit item., as the action of producing it came before the Copy stamp was applied.

The crook who copied this "1837 half dollar" when to the trouble of putting a lettered edge on it. Of course in 1837 the half dollars had a reeded edge on them.
