After much thought and consultation with many amazingly helping forum members, I purchased this beauty for exactly $3k
This is for my gold detailed type set. This fill my type 1 Liberty DE.
I also clicked professional images in my own photolab.
Would love to hear how I did from folks here (both coin and photography)

I started putting together all types of gold coins going backward from 1933 to 1796. As of now I have all types until 1856 (execpt saint HR). Need classics and early gold and they are expensive!

The mark on the lip is distracting. My guess is that it would not sticker. Nice photo.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm just trying to give constructive criticism here. The cut across her lip is pretty distracting and the wear is pretty strong, you can see haloing around the date and devices indicating stronger luster there and less so in the open fields. I'd say it's lucky to be in the 58 holder, it looks more like a 53 to me.
Your images are pretty good. I'm curious as to what your setup is. When I clicked on the image to make it larger, I noticed they were a bit on the soft side. Hence my question about your setup.
I would not buy it as an AU58.
Looks like a smoking deal in any AU holder.

My guess, and it is just a guess at this point, is that the coin would fail CAC due to either the cut across the lip and/or what appears to be odd luster.

That was my concern - more so than the marks. The coin just appears to be too 'smooth' on the luster. I suspected a silent net grade
I think OP for $3000 got a decent deal. I've attached photos for two
recent auction transactions. CAC one sold for $3700, and the other one for $3500. OP's coin appears to be consistent for an NGC58 based on pictures. I also suspect his photos are not presenting the coin accurately.
I am wondering if the luster issue is the image. I go 50/50 on the CAC sticker. I have seen worse 58's.
The cut on the lip is amplified on my pic:
1. Because I wanted it amplified to show it well, so I positioned the lights that way
2. Because the coin image is also zoomed in from the actual size for the pic (unlike in hand)
Luster:
1. My lighting angle does not bring out the luster as much as you can see in hand. I am loading a mini video that will show the luster pattern. I believe that will help.
This is the same research I did before purchasing. I feel (just my opinion) this coin has little lesser dings (at least in reverse) than other AU58s NGC (cac or not). I used NGC auction history and pretty much looked at every single pic that was there.
Are there nicer AU58s, absolutely.
I'm not sure what the gloves are for. The coin is in a slab after all.
From the first photos, I'd say no CAC. From the video, I'd say maybe. There's an easy way to find out.
I wish the video showed the coin being rolled very slowly....and then tilted back and forth very quickly. It needs to be about three times as long to get a good look at it. But yes, the luster appears much fresher in the video
I think the look of the OP coin is caused by seawater/sand abrasion.
Probably was in a SS Central America PCGS holder and crossed over to NGC minus the pedigree.

Yes. The reverse attracted me towards this coin and make me overlook the cut on the lips (at this grade and price).
Many of the AU gold foil label PCGS SS Central America coins ended up in MS 61/62 PCGS/NGC holders minus the pedigree.
And many of them CAC with that "look".
Yes, I thought about this before buying, but the coloration on the reverse (3-5 o clock, above D.) makes me double guess it.
From the looks, it looks like this is a NGC 7 holder (used from 1997 to 2000). Did people do crossovers at that time?
I believe the SS Central America hoard was discovered and sold (after lawsuit) in 1996.
If its the case, is there a way I can get the pedigree back? The SS Central America Pedigree has a nice premium.

The premium really only applies to the original pedigree holder coins.
Kind of like PCGS holders with GSA on them don't get the premium like the original GSA holder coins.
The earliest auction records I could find were some raw coins sold in 2000 and the PCGS holder coins sold in 2001.
I like gold coins.. and your video portrays the coin better then the still shots. From the video, I would say the grade is ok - the lib scratch is quite distracting though. The edge reed hits on the reverse are fairly minor... I do not think it would get a sticker at CAC though. Cheers, RickO

I think it is a good looking coin. Only one way to find out if it will CAC or not!
After the video, I still stay with 50/50 because those are the odds I get over there!

I don't know about NGC, but the PCGS crossover service started in 1995-1996 and PCGS would offer coupons for five free crossover attempts per submission. I crossed a number of coins to PCGS at that time.
