I got my first Bitcoin!!

After a long, patient hunt, I’ve bought my first Bitcoin! A bit pricey ($2837.38), but the dealer wasn’t getting up off this one for cheap. He said it’s one of the nicest ones he’s ever seen (true, that!), and that he was into it for quite a bit, so he didn’t have much wiggle room on the price.
Anyway, I got it home, and noticed some doubling on the date and on the devices. Looks like a true doubled die to me; what do you think? Also: a bit of a rub on the B at 9 o’clock and a couple of light die striations in the fields, but they don’t distract, IMHO. A lock MS66+, to me. If so, it’ll be a pop 1!!
I’ve asked B.J. to add a Bitcoin collection to the Registry. She says she’s been getting lots of requests from collectors, so it’s just a matter of time.
Oh, happy day!!

How cool is That!
Congratulations!
This was supposed to be a spoof.
Thanks, though!

@dpoole
OMG, I'm busting a gut right now.
You got me, LOL
You had me going also. I still need to read the other thread on Bitcoins, but I was left wondering why someone would pay big $$ for a "coin" representing a digital currency....
I knew as soon As you started talking DDO you were pulling our leg.

You know, after I wrote this, I did a little research (an interesting sequence; I ought to go into politics!
)
There actually are a bunch of physical "bitcoins" out there. A lot of them are curiosity pieces with no transactional intent beyond that of a counterfeit tiddly-wink. Some are made out of gold, silver and other PMs, though again with no value actually linked to bitcoins. Some apparently include ID aspects intended to actually be used/retain the value of actual bitcoins. But as commenters point out: why would anybody trust a physical bitcoin??
Truth's sometimes stranger than spoof.

some of them are very expensive and collectable. i would not be surprised if there is a registry set for them in the future. they are today's version of pioneer coinage.
I dunno. I just download the picture.

most are brass, however there are some that are gold and silver. the value in BTC is fiat, while the silver and gold version also have intrinsic value. there are some bitcoins that have no value and are just wallets.
Interesting "coin" but does it fit the legal definition? Every month a club member offers Dutch tuits for fair prices. We could all use a few more of these coins too:

It's like one share of a stock, down the line it could be worth big big bucks from what I hear.
Bitcoin collectors can't risk their registries being found out by the NSA, so they will be maintained in a spiral notebook under a false bottom of a drawer in BJ's desk.

There have been bitcoins minted with an associated wallet id (and hidden private key), e.g. https://denarium.com/physical-bitcoins (word to the wise, I have not used them).

Is this made of gold or what? What is the reverse? I thought bit coins were virtual

Now THIS should be in the PCGS Forum Hall of Fame!
I spent well over a hour once on Wiki trying to find out what a bitcoin is.
After all that time still don't know what they are and all of it struck me as just too abstract.
Hackers and counterfeiters will bring the value down. Like the Chinese are counterfeiting US silver coinage.

There's a lot of power used (electro) and a lot of money being held in account, on account of one. Like TDN's coin(s), they're out of my reach.
And didn't something like 72,000 Bitcoin mysteriously vanish due to that " wanna cry" computer virus ?
Happy gathering.
Funny.... obviously there are no tangible bitcoins... and it is a highly speculative arena right now... and has been for a while. Many have profited.... not sure where it will end up.... I do not foresee this replacing real money.... and yes, I have been wrong before. Cheers, RickO
