For both buying and selling, how many dealers do you deal with?

What's the difference between working with and buying from?

Used to have a go to dealer but departed when management changed. IF GC is considered a dealer (as opposed to auction venue) that is my first place to do business.

I answered 5 to 7 although most them probably I'm in hibernation. There’s been so little on the market over the past year, that I’ve seen limited items to buy.

I am open to buying from almost anyone, but there are some dealers I always see first at the shows.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Seems there could be a difference between working with and buying from... Sorry for splitting hairs but I see a distinction worth making here.

    Dealers sell and buy coins.
If you do other things with dealers, you could count that as well.

I have 4-6 in my significant series. But when I venture into other series, there will be more.

I don't work with them except buy stuff they have at auction or offer me at shows that can be retailed down the road.

Last show bought Modern World gold close to melt PCGS or NGC MS 69, PCGS / NGC dollars below bid at $45 each. Just stuff I can retail shows or online. Last nite online auction pickoff of nice gem 1950 FRN graded by PMG at 40 Pvt. MV. Been loading up on graded US and World Currency lately.

On slabbed PCGS / NGC coins my offers / bids somewhere between blue and grey.

Slabbed AGB in 69 and 70 seemed to be most popular sellers at show - guy set up next to me sold around 25 of these alone. Gold spot has moved up since then.

None.... When I went to shows in the PNW, there were a couple of dealers I would frequent, buying only. Now there are none and I deal with the BST mainly. Cheers, RickO

We don't play well together so work is out of the question.

I seek out classic coins with (what I consider) exceptional eye appeal that fit in my budget. So I buy from whoever has the material that fits that criteria. That being said, there are a few dealers (2 or 3) who I buy from more frequently because they consistently have more of the quality of material I'm looking for.

My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

Dealers can service want lists, represent clients/collectors at auctions, sell numismatic books including older collectible numismatic publications, medals whether they be art medals or whatever... All seems to be working with someone and developing a level of trust. That dealer develops an appreciation for what it is that certain collector clients find interesting. I see this relationship and skill as being different that visiting the local dealer once or twice a month to see what is new. What is involved in buying can be a different experience... That is my point.
