They aren't AT. PCGS says so.
Whew! I thought I'd have to look at Morgans.
Me likey!
The name is LEE!
They look NT but not the BI. .Pretty coins.
I am not a big fan of the Bicentennial Half Dollar because of the spotting, but the rest are very nice. I think that they have NT album toning.
It's all good, especially when they look that pretty.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Did the seller you got that half from have a bunch more raw 65-69 Ken toners that were similar in SMS packaging? If he did I posted to the forums here about them and they all yelled AT!! so I didn't buy. Plus the seller had loads of neg feedback
I like the 65 the best

I have never had a modern coin turn that color in the original mint holder. That observation would apply to a couple thousand coins.
So pray tell what was the source of this of color?
IMHO the three coins are examples of doctored coins. The first and third may have been doctored within the holder. The second has a signature from a doctor working out of Utah.
I collect modern toners.
I have bought coins from the doctor I believe is responsible for the second coin.
The seller on the first and third coin has sold thousands of coins with a similar look.

I don't know how that ebay account hasnt been shut down yet. You couldn't pay me to buy a coin from him

If they are AT, I have a bigger problem with PCGS as they continue to slab them. I thought a few years ago was a PCGS mission to put an end these kind of doctors?
Frankly I don't care if they are AT or NT. They are slabed and they were fairly cheap.
I really do believe your first and third coins were gassed in the slab... which in itself is obviously a huge problem - even more so than the second coin. But yes, that particular toning pattern on the second coin has been MA to PCGS for years now... and I think CAC is even putting green beans on these coins...
The new slabs are air tight, correct? That will certainly slow down the gassers.
I like your modern crap...cheap thrills are worth more than what they cost as far as I am concerned...I think what the above posters are saying is the racket is in fact gassing the coin INSIDE of the holder...so PCGS has zero control in that given situation.
Seems hard to believe that you could achieve that type of patterning in the tone by gassing. Could someone explain how this is done? How do they get the tone only on the periphery of the coin?
...there was a dude a while back that was kryptonite comics old business partner or something...key largo rare coins I think was his tag...anyways...that dude got outed over here @CU for making coins look just like those by gassing the coin inside of slab. I think he was selling coins out of Oregon. A loser is a Loser
Perhaps the gas used has an effect on the gasket surrounding the coin.

There is a thread that shows proof this seller is gassing the slabs, prior to that thread I thought pcgs was slabbing these and had lost all faith in them, but it appears this is not the case. IMO pcgs HAS to start posting a picture with the cert look up like NGC does. Even if it's a crappy scan, collectors need to be able to have some sort of idea what a toned coin looked like when it was holdered. I really hope pcgs does this soon. As for the thread, I'll see if I can find it and post the link.

Get past the bickering in the beginning and you can see gtstang finds pictures of the gassed coins, perfectly white in the pcgs holders.
Want to learn here, what gives this away as AT?

If you want to call a 52 year old coin "modern" (and I know why it is called that).......Go right ahead!
I decided on returning the 1969-S. Just not that happy with it. I'm keeping the 1965 SMS. It's just to pretty. The 1976 I'm not worried about since it has a trueview and passed PCGS as NT by them.
You should read the entire thread linked above. Being in a PCGS straight graded holder does not mean they weren't artificially toned. I personally sent evidence to PCGS about a seller of AT'd stuff. They have now no toned inventory to sell. Prior to this, they had multiples for sale every week for at least two years. All straight graded and they sold well. The toned market has become very hazardous to play in, especially Modern Crap.

All of his coins pass the Secure test...

Here's an Ike I bought from him... (not TrueView though)
http://www.pcgs.com/cert/26101325
The true viewed coin obviously passed pcgs, It looked like that when they photographed it. This is why I really hope pcgs starts doing some sort of imaging on all submissions, it just makes no sense why they wouldn't
...just food for thought since a majority of my collecting was re-holdering coins for TrueView...technically one could send in an already gassed, after the initial grading, PCGS slabbed coin in for re-holder and TrueView
Does pcgs not do some sort of assessment on a reholder? If a coin turns in the holder they just re slab it and send it on its way? Seems to me if something was blatantly suspicious on a coin when sent in for a reholder it would get flagged some way. but who knows, I think that would be a potential risk/reward for a coin doctor to take. Hard core pcgs guy love true views and would probably pay some of the ridiculous prices these doctors are asking. Just my 2 cents
They stopped guaranteeing the toning on coins years ago. Why would they care about slabbing them?

...first hand experience here...I sent in a butt ugly 83cc for re-holder and TrueView...the money wasn't just burning a hole in my pocket cause I actually liked it and named her the wicked witch of the west...that witch had turned so bad in the holder I didn't even know if they were gonna send it back or spend it. That POS was in my set for over a year...It was only a $200 coin but why would they do another analysis of a coin that they already graded and slabbed? When they get the coin for reholder, the coin is sealed in their plastic. I am pretty sure graders don't even touch them. Maybe though...I think the idea of a butt ugly scan of every coin they slab, like ATS , is the final solution to this problem
I do agree it would be the final solution.
The TrueView / Secure coin(s) do not appear to have been gassed in the slab. I suspect it was sent in raw and graded. Like I said these have be MA with PCGS for a long time -- 5 years I believe. Maybe more...
I agree there are a lot of coins with this look.
Buy what you like. There's no guarantee that everyone else will like it. If so, it's a plus. If not, who cares ?

When we consider modern man is over 2000 years old .... well, LOL

The market has many, many AT coins... very well done... I have said this for years here on the forum. The skill of these 'doctors' has increased at a rapid pace. Tarnish in the holders is done frequently.... the seemingly low cost of modern AT coins is made up by the volume sold. All that being said, if individuals like tarnished coins and are willing to pay the price, then that is their business. It seems many do not care that the tarnish is induced by coin doctors...or, as I prefer to call the modern group... artists. I do believe this focus on tarnish actually is detrimental to the hobby, since the focus becomes the environmental damage and no longer the quality of the coin. To each his own. Cheers, RickO
For better or worse, this is my first thought when seeing coins like the 1965 and 1969 now. For modern toners with a common look, I like to see TrueViews to verify PCGS approval now.
