The double eagles in this thread are very impressive.
The 1892-S has the look of a Saddle Ridge Hoard coin.

The Type II Liberty Double Eagle is a sleeper in the series. Mint State ones are scarce because there have never been any big shipwreck hoards discovered. They were almost all saved on dry land. Very high grade ones almost don't exist.

And I have to post it. This is one of my prettiest coins. This one even impresses the non collectors.

Thanks BloodMan. It took several years to find the right coin and it's great "in hand" with original surfaces.

The 1873 is a PCGS MS-63, and the 1907 High Relief, plain edge is an NGC MS-65. The Type II double eagle (e.g. 1873} is very scarce in MS-64 and almost unobtainable in MS-65 or higher.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
