Congrats. Bumping off a tightly held #1 spot for 15 years is an accomplishment. Acquiring the superlative coins needed to do it is a thousand times more noteworthy.

Outstanding. I'm curious as to how much help (if any), the auctions appearances of Newman, Gardner, and Pogue had on your set?

I see that 2 of the 3 upgrade coins are Proof issues. I'm surprised that Proof coins are included in the type set. I would have expected that the set would be strictly limited to non proof coins.

    There are two sets now:

The Type Set Mint State, no proofs included, pure Mint State.

The Type Set Mixed, Mint State and Proof.

BTW, there were always already 4 proofs included in the Mixed type set, before I upgraded with a few more proofs:

    4 USD Stella 1880 CH
    4 USD Stella 1880 FH
    and the two Gobrecht Dollars

    These come proof only.

Wow! Congratulations. And, from reviewing the set in some detail, it looks like there is plenty of room to "upgrade" at relatively low cost, since many of the more "modern" coins are not topped out. The real money coins, including most of the early type pieces are simply fantastic! Plus, it looks like that has been a carefully and steadily built set. Simply wonderful.

This is really one of my favorite coins in the set. I saw many 1796 quarters the last 20 years and this is by far the most beautiful. Its original, fully original and prooflike surfaces, never cleaned or touched, full details. All other coins I saw had some kind of a problem, even if graded high.

A great accomplishment and a great set of coins! I find the hunt to be 90% of the enjoyment of the hobby for me. Hunting and finding the right coin for a set is loads of fun. Once I feel I have taken a collection as far as my means can take it, I usually lose interest and get rid of it to pursue something else.

No need to light things on fire, but this is the stuff that dreams are made of. Superlatives will abound but hardly be sufficient.
