Congrats. Bumping off a tightly held #1 spot for 15 years is an accomplishment. Acquiring the superlative coins needed to do it is a thousand times more noteworthy.

Outstanding. I'm curious as to how much help (if any), the auctions appearances of Newman, Gardner, and Pogue had on your set?
Congratulations!
Which coin(s) were upgraded to put it into the top spot?
I see that 2 of the 3 upgrade coins are Proof issues. I'm surprised that Proof coins are included in the type set. I would have expected that the set would be strictly limited to non proof coins.

all the proofs + the 1907 Eagle Wire Edge
There are two sets now:
The Type Set Mint State, no proofs included, pure Mint State.
The Type Set Mixed, Mint State and Proof.
BTW, there were always already 4 proofs included in the Mixed type set, before I upgraded with a few more proofs:
4 USD Stella 1880 CH
4 USD Stella 1880 FH
and the two Gobrecht Dollars
These come proof only.
Most impressive collection I've ever viewed. So, what's the ultimate collection worth?

Thank you for showing your collection and photos. I always wondered what was laying behind the High Desert set. Now I can peruse the #1 set...

for me it is priceless.
Phenomenal! What an accomplishment!
Thanks for posting the pictures foe the public to see.
It is an amazing accomplishment.
I might catch up to you one day - My set is number 34.
Nice set, I hope you can hold the spot thru June 30th.
Huge congrats!
Lance.
As mentioned in your other thread thanks for allowing us to view your now #1 set. Glad you didnt wait to stay at #2.
Will you be trying to upgrade anymore so that high desert doesnt take back over 1st place?
I may have missed it, but how long has the set taken to build?
I started in 1999
Yes there will be more upgrades coming
Im sure I can, there will be more upgrades coming.
Once I decided to add the proofs, its easy.
A Huge Congrats!...see...$$$ can indeed buy Happiness
That is a HUGE achievement. Very, very well done!!!!!!!!!
An achievement of epic proportion. Proof once again that the best takes time, dedication and other resources (intellectual and financial). Major congratulations on a tremendously difficult job well done!! Very well deserved.

Awesome achievement. Thanks for sharing it.
Amazing.
To me, those collections drive home a point.
I must be happy with my collection, the best collection that I can put together with my means and ability.
Congratulations.... that is very impressive... and beautiful coins....Cheers, RickO
Wow! Congratulations. And, from reviewing the set in some detail, it looks like there is plenty of room to "upgrade" at relatively low cost, since many of the more "modern" coins are not topped out. The real money coins, including most of the early type pieces are simply fantastic! Plus, it looks like that has been a carefully and steadily built set. Simply wonderful.

Beautiful collection and congratulations!
Taking a browse through your images you have up, I just absolutely LOVE that 1796 quarter.

Picture for easy reference:

We both know DWA is smiling
who is DWA ?
This is really one of my favorite coins in the set. I saw many 1796 quarters the last 20 years and this is by far the most beautiful. Its original, fully original and prooflike surfaces, never cleaned or touched, full details. All other coins I saw had some kind of a problem, even if graded high.
thanks !
You have done great work and achieved an amazing set because of it.
I love the hunt for coins. Your hunts must have been fun.
You have a truly amazing collection. It is a rare combination of numismatic knowledge combined with the patience and resources to acquire the very best.
Sure wish PCGS would include the grade on these pics.

I'm pretty sure that's David Akers....and if so it's a huge compliment
Wow, stunning set. Congratulations! I love the fact that you have been working on it since 1999.

Amazing set! Congrats!
Would love to hear from TahoeDale as to whether Mike's competitive juices are now flowing!
Just wow. This may never be equaled. Good job.
As Bill Jones said above, this took a rare combination of talents and abilities to accomplish. You should be proud.
WOW, I am just now seeing this. What an amazing accomplishment! Congratulations.
I would also like to thank you for taking the number one spot and sharing your collection with everyone, including many great images and the provenance information of many very important pieces. This serves as a great reference for many collectors. Thank you so very much for sharing!

A great accomplishment and a great set of coins! I find the hunt to be 90% of the enjoyment of the hobby for me. Hunting and finding the right coin for a set is loads of fun. Once I feel I have taken a collection as far as my means can take it, I usually lose interest and get rid of it to pursue something else.
Can't wait to see a battle for supremacy break out, we all benefit seeing the coins!
Wow, this the most incredible set I've ever seen with photos. Thanks for sharing photos of all those beautifully rare coins that I would not have seen otherwise.
A great accomplishment indeed!!!

Thanks for letting us see your beautiful set.
Viewing this was like going to a museum, congrats!!
Thinking of lighting all my coins on fire........

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Oh man.. that '56 PR69DCAM quarter..can a single coin exist in more than one set?
No need to light things on fire, but this is the stuff that dreams are made of. Superlatives will abound but hardly be sufficient.
