So, just got a message from an ebayer regarding a proof set I have up that is ending
in a few minutes:
New message from: michaeosma_0 (297Turquoise Star)
This is a terrible proof set!
Fortunately he gave me enough time to block him!

Ahhhh.... the always positive eBay crowd.
I bet he is a buyer of terrible proof sets at 50% of asking price?
Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,
What purpose did that message serve? that's very odd.

Now that it ended it appears that he did try to bid and now sent me a message that I'm leaving money on the table by blocking him......
oh well.

Maybe the buyer will have better luck buying if he goes to shows and tells dealers face-to-face their proof sets are terrible.

You did the right thing by following your instincts and blocking him.
We will see. It turns out he did win an auction before I blocked him......He's paid as well. Now I'll ship (he's across town) and we will see if anything ensues.

well, at least he didn't buy it and when got it message you and say there are a couple real dogs in this set, I will keep it if you refund me 40%. It is not that I am trying to get these for free but the dogs are the key to the set....
Put it up for 5x as much with a 20x BIN and link him the new listing.
Well since he's so close why don't you just hand deliver it and tell him his wife is ugly
That's a great idea. Don't mess with old guys, they just might do that!
bob:)
Hand deliver it to the wife while he's at work and see what happens.. bow-chicka-wow-wow.
The ebay stories just never end... what a study in humanity....
Cheers, RickO
I'm not on Ebay but from what I have read here it sure seems like a full time job selling there

No, not really a problem selling on ebay. But, just like with everything else you do stumble upon a bad apple once in a great while. Makes for good entertainment!

Maybe he is right... how about a link?

Sure it's not the greatest set but horrible???? You can call my daughter fat, my son lazy but never my coins horrible!

The loser is pissed that he didn't get the '61 set at 2/3 of bid instead of the 1/2 of bid that it realized. wow. you left a lotta money on the table, you bad man.

Why? Why? WHY?
Something tells me he had a bad day, or just has a really sad life.
Proofs are tough to photograph. I meant to put bids on a few you had up but I got busy and forgot. Like those unopened 61s you had, argh.

61 proof sets unless deep cams, do not sell well....I got what it was worth and didn't take a lot of pics as it would not show anything positive.
bob
I would cancel the item he won, and return the money.

I blocked him and the got a save the face message. I unblocked him and he's since bought about 20 more sets of various dates. Sometimes we all get a bit off kilter...oh well, life rambles on.
bob:)
Yeah, at a certain point you realize life is short, the only real commodity is time, and avoiding nonsense like this is worth a few $$.
Well played.
This is a great thread and it makes me want to comment, but it's hard to find the words.
I wonder how much money that he thinks you left on the table. Let that be a lesson!
I knew it would happen.
What is a 'save the face' message ?
Something stupid about it's fun to buy coins and mine looked so good. Not an apology but let him bid anyway. He ended up bidding and winning 19 auctions and paid at the end last night. Not a lot of money but $550 total. It worked out okay for me and I think for him.....
and the beat goes on.....

Maybe he meant to write terrific instead of terrible? This has happened to me before on my iPhone with my fat fingers. With the continued messages and purchases, I don't think he was being offensive, I bet somewhere on another forum this guy posted "I told this eBay seller his proof set was terrific, and he blocked me!!!!" Along with 20 plus comments from people calling you a jerk and they would never buy coins from you. But then again who knows.
Never thought about fat fingers (I don't own a cell phone yet) but that may be the case or spell check error?
Could very well be the case.
