I thought I'd try out the poll this time. It doesn't appear to be too difficult to create one.
I got this back today and I'm very pleased. It's very difficult to photograph, but I captured the colors pretty well.

My toned silver eagle graded and is back. Guess the grade. -poll-

I find that ANY toning on an ASE drops the grade at least one level but...you say you are pleased so I will defer

I've very very rarely seen a toned SAE go above 68

You were hoping for a 68 but also said that you were very pleased so I'll go with 69

Unknown as he hasn't revealed the grade yet.

I vote 66, toned in a metal environment (tin on the dresser).

    Nice coin!

I voted MS69..... the pictures do not reveal much... just a guess since it is an ASE...Will not mention the tarnish or lineage thereof.... ;) Cheers, RickO

Try and find pcgs graded heavily toned walkers in the grade you guessed and you will see why you are probably wrong. Even if you're wrong it is stll a good guess though (and you shouldn't be discouraged).

    Good guesses.
I thought 68, but it made a 66. Above the motto it has a few scuffs and I think 66 is about right considering those.
I'm still pleased to get it into a holder.

I'm sure it's the scuffs in the field. You can only see them at certain angles.

The average grade for an ASE is MS69. You were buying color and not grade so it really does not matter what it came back as. Anyone that is disappointed with an MS 69, or MS 68 for that matter is missing some significant perspective.

I missed by one grade, again. I said 65. Saw the scuffs/scratches.

    Thanks everybody. :)
Here's the best shot I can capture of the scuffs:

If it wasn't for those, it would surely be a 67 or 68.

I voted 66. PCGS has to really like the coin in my experience to go any higher than 67 for an ASE with so much toning.

Crack out and cross-over an option? MS66 is harsh as the toning mostly covers up the scuffs.

I'm ok with it as a 66. I only paid $25 for the coin raw. There's no financial downside at this point. :)

The scuffs only show at certain angles and under good light. The graders obviously saw them. :D

Too picky. If there only scene under certain conditions are they there all the time? No, maybe. Reconsideration?

I agree, it likely would get a possible 67 or 68 but I'm fine with it as a 66. They can still fetch a healthy sum on ebay even as a 66 with the right toning.
