I understand your skepticism! But, I cracked out of the holder myself. The first coin is the ebay sellers scanner image and the second is my camera. I would have taken much better pics of the ANACS slab if I had know this was going to happen!

congrats, but technically not a crossover. I wonder what the grade would have been had you submitted it for crossover (in the ANACS holder). We will never know...

I've crossed a few $2 1/2 Indians from NGC TO Anacs (to get certain varieties on the holder than NGC would not recognize), and literally every one came back graded lower. ANACS has been strict lately.

Why is sending to CAC pushing your luck? Do you not agree with the PCGS grade?
I think it has a rub. To me its an AU58. It was never an AU53 though, and I dont know what is going in Colorado but they cant afford to be undergrading coins. If they are going to do that there is absolutely no reason at all to send a coin there.
To be clear (again), it is NOT a crossover if the coin was cracked out. Once a coin is out of a slab it is no different than any other raw coin.
A crossover is a specific grading service offered by our host that has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. It is very different than submitting (or resubmitting) once-slabbed-now-raw coins in for grading.
Very nice... and quite a surprise..... I really cannot judge the coin in the ANACS slab... the picture just will not allow that.... Congratulations are in order... Cheers, RickO

Whether the coin is in an ANACS slab, in plastic baggie, in a flip, out of a flip it doesn't change the coin and PCGS is paid to grade coins not slabs. If it was one grade bump I would get what your saying due to the fact that PCGS is looking thru plastic to determine an upgrade but they sure as hell should be able to see a 10 point upgrade thru plastic and once they take the coin out of the ANACS holder to grade it, it's the same result as a raw submission in my eyes, if not that's a flaw on PCGS and their integrity imo
I doubt if I live to be 100 ill ever buy another ANACS coin that PCGS upgrades by 10 points. I wish I had taken great pics of that coin in its slab, but like I said, I wasnt expecting this to happen. Oh well, on that same submission I also had a bad experience so in the end it all events out I suppose.
Congrats to you! Special coin in deed. Glad it graded this way for you.
Sorry guys, But I do not think its all mechanical. And Yes, a crossover versas a raw submission is different, but the point is, two companies graded a "raw coin" and it came back 10 points apart. For us old timers on the forum, we loathed in the days of sending ANACS (or any other TPG) in to PCGS for cross overs. There must have been a billion post about whether to crack out, or not crack out as everyone in those days was scared to even send a coin in for crossover. Well my, my, how things have changed! I can only speak for Lincoln cents but I have been having a field day when it comes to sending any Lincoln cent in for grading - especially previously graded ANACS coins. So what happened ? again if we go back in time- everyone said "PCGS grades to a higher standard". Well either ANACS has lowered theirs - or PCGS has raised theirs even further (not). No doubt its gradeflation (or the inability for ANACS to get it right the first time) but looking through a couple of years of submissions of ANACS crossover has given me nothing but a point or 2 higher grades plus those pictured below. Maybe its because I always crack out and hit them with Acetone before submitting. Maybe its luck, but I do know, its not mechanical. Of course these are not nearly as special as the OP's coin. But the issue is the same.

I don't think anyone mocked the crack and cross technique. IMHO most of us consider it the best way to get the highest possible grade. They just pointed out it wasn't a crossover like the thread title stated.

I'm sorry but I don't understand.
Probably Anacs saw some friction and little eye appeal whereas maybe PCGS saw a technical 63 coin though somewhat doggy. Later buyers will look at the coin and assess at what price they are willing to buy it. Gone are the days when you could call up leading wholesalers and get firm prices bases on grades for coins like this.

If it happened for you, you suck.
You got game!
Sure does not look like the same coin to me? If it is, WOW!
That was my first thought also, the first photo is very dark and hard to tell. And Congrats on the upgrade.

Wow nice job.
So it was not a crossover.
Very nice on the grade!
congrats, but technically not a crossover. I wonder what the grade would have been had you submitted it for crossover (in the ANACS holder). We will never know...
True. Something tells me less than MS63!

I'd agree with you on that! Count me in as a skeptic of "judging the coin, not the holder"
I thought AU58 and would have been very pleased with that.

sending to CAC?
Crack out not a cross over, but a raw submission. Congrats on the keen eye and upgrade!

So PCGS upgraded an ANACS AU53 coin 10 points ? For the lolz....
Outstanding! Two thumbs up!

If it was a crossover they would have put it in an xf45 holder
And everyone would have thought the ANACS grade was too high.

Or one coincidental mechanical error. The coin looks AU to my eyes.
Very nice!!!!!!
HAPPY COLLECTING
Only to those who never looked at the actual coin.
It's been my experience that the yellow ANACS holders are quite conservative on copper, especially on Lincolns.
Very nice... and quite a surprise..... I really cannot judge the coin in the ANACS slab... the picture just will not allow that.... Congratulations are in order... Cheers, RickO
It would have come back as an AU53...with 99.99%

One of them had a mechanical error. It is impossible to tell from either image above which one it was.
Epic upgrade!

100% Positive BST transactions
Based on the two better photos by Watersports above Im going with PCGS is overgrading Lincolns - not that ANACS is undergrading Lincolns.
Im not a Lincoln guy but all 3 look like they have rub. This should be a canary in the coal mine moment...
