Early Commem CAC Results

A few weeks back I submitted a bunch of coins to CAC, including all my early commems. I've been collecting these since 2002. Being a "Type" kinda guy I really enjoy the series. What can be better than 50 types to collect. So much history and stories in the series as well.
I was quite pleased with the results because there were several that I really didn't think would sticker. And several of those did. But of course there is the other side where two I thought were sure things didn't. Too bad that even with the results I remain underwater on the entire set by about 35-40%.

Pretty incredible results...how about a photo of Oregon?? And not a commemorative but I'd like to see that Moffat $5...
The Oregon was a sure bet, a doily to boot.

I rarely if ever comment on these threads. But the Op results don't surprise me one bit.
The original poster has always bought very nice .coins and knows what he is doing.
Also, you don't see him come on here pounding his chest how much he knows, who he knows etc. Because he doesn't need to do so, like so many around here seem to be doing lately.
Oh, I rarely post on these because I don't feel like back slapping folks over getting approval for solid for the grade, or a gold mark hoping to buy it someday. Or even the green the same. Most of my coins have been approved by the gentleman that does the deed, btw.
BUT, congratulations sir.
The Alabama and Hawaii do not surprise me, even without seeing them. Lots of iffy versions of those out there (including mine).

The Hawaii was a huge surprise. I thought it was a sure bet. The Alabama was one that I agree with. If I was not a collector submitter I would not have sent it in. I love the look of it but it is not a solid 66.

Some of the best/expensive coins didn't CAC. That must hurt a little bit?
Hurt may not be the correct term. The only two that I thought would CAC that didn't are the Hawaiian above and the Cincinnati. So surprised is more appropriate term for those two. Both remain great coins even without a sticker. Being a collector I only have to pay for what stickers, so I sent them all, even the ones I knew probably wouldn't sticker. And it was with those that I was really pleasantly surprised.

That Hawaii is sweet!
Hi. You did very well to get that many passed. At one time, about 1/2 of commems submitted were getting stickers. The Hawaiian looks great, but was it luster that held it back? The prices on commems have really come down and hope you enjoy your collection.

That would be just silly. I collect coins, not plastic and stickers. I liked those coins when I purchased them, I liked them when I sent them to CAC, and I still like them. Just cause they didn't CAC doesn't mean they are not nice coins. My opinion has not changed.

When I sold my commemoratives, Heritage sent 40 of them to CAC and 39 stickered. The one that didn't? - The Hawaiian.
Perhaps CAC is tougher on them because they are by far the most valuable of the series?

YOu have a heck of a good set. Congrats on all the ones that stickered. Looking at images of some of your commems in the past helped me to understand what quality is all about and I avoided some mistakes as a result.
While you may be underwater in a strictly $ sense, your collection is on the _altiplano __as far as I'm concerned.

I am curious why John Albanese did feel that was a MS-65. In looking at photos of some he has stickered they seem to have significant yellow toning (which is typical for the Hawaiians), but yours seems to have some yellow. I wonder if the overly dark toning around the periphery was a negative? Others have any opinions as to why this one didn't make the grade? (To the OP, I believe you can contact John and he may have kept notes regarding his examination that would explain his thinking.)
I think the toning is fine and luster is what stopped it from getting a sticker. Please ask John his reason for no sticker. Thanks.
