FWIW, I had medals stored in their original cases with the foam backing. I discovered 30 years later the foam deteriorated and spoiled the medals' reverse finish.

I agree and am concerned, but I think the combination of airtites and monitoring will help me keep everything under review. Also everything will be rephotographed for my record of what they each looked like when they entered their new environment.

Thanks whit, since I'm NOT a woodworker at all, I'm relying on statements like yours to remind me to keep a VERY close eye on changes in hue.
As per another suggestion on this thread, I've got a few BU coins stored in the cabinet and check them periodically....and probably always will.
I did that the whole cabinet and individual drawers venting for about a month in hopes that would do something.

Great idea, awesome job. After seeing the finished product the woodworker in me would have chosen a different wood for draw fronts. The difference in woods would bother me. When I made mine I used walnut for everything so there would be consistency in the grains. Overall great job, a piece to be proud of.
The cabinet is very nice looking. It reminds me of the cabinets in my grandfathers old print shop. The drawers were just like yours but held the letters for setting up the print.
Great work...look forward to your new project.... I have three wooden coin cabinets...with coins in them... had them now for 20+ years (I did not build them).... no tarnish on the coins stored in them...Cheers, RickO

Flat cabinets, or architect's cabinet, or printer's cabinet. All pretty similar. They were a huge inspiration.
