Opened 3 boxes of Heritage with the son and wife / they love cracking stuff open as well. First box I opened every pack had a "shiny" card which I thought was normal. I am a newbie to Heritage. Second and third box I got maybe 3-4 per box, and I was complaining about "why are there not shiny cards in every pack. Assuming that the first box was not normal. Here is a photo of the damage - what are they, are they limited and how limited, and all are numbered 400 and above. Thank you in advance for the help.
The one shiny box you hit is one box per case they are considered purple chrome not numbered on the back of cards. The other chrome you hit out of boxes are numbered on the back. Did you hit any autos out of your boxes?
All 3 boxes had relic cards in them - no autos yet. Have a Billy Hamilton, Cole Hamels, and Yoanis Cespedes relics. Insert packs yielded (2) 3-card uncut sheets and one Carlos Correa poster. Did get a Wil Myers chrome card #'d to 68 as well plus a few other hits. All totaled I have about 30 SP purple chrome cards and another 20-25 SP cards - if those are the ones in the 400's. Any idea what purple chrome cards go for?
Depending on the player but for the most part a couple bucks each of course Trout and Harper and key rookies a little bit more. Wondering is this your first year doing heritage?
I did Heritage back a few years ago so i am familiar with how collectors love the challenge of this set due to the SP cards and multiple variations and inserts. Just have not gotten up to speed with all the pricing yet with all of the different cards. Just something fun to open with the little one, and did about half a case. Will take some to 80's shop this week, and the rest I will move on the board or eBay in a week or two.
Without looking at the back of my '68 All-Star subset, I think I remember that the puzzles were of Yaz and Mays back in the day.
I really enjoyed this year's seeding and configuration. My case (which I savored opening over the past week and a half, usually in front of wildly-entertaining WBC games!) was really well-collated: 88 different SPs with only one box duplicating another's and only 8 dupes from all of the insert sets. I also liked how they made the basic inserts (Flashback, News, Then & Nows, etc.) one or so per box because I looked forward to seeing each one, rather that completing the entire insert set before I got through half of the case, as it had been over the last few years. Loved the Game cards too, and that the box-toppers were more than the usual buy-backs and ad panels (the 3-D cards are very cool).
I'll post my case hits tonight, and I'm looking forward to doing my annual trading with what's left of the Heritage gang.
For those that are interested in trading, here are my needs list. I have already traded away a good amount, but still have a few duplicate SPs, inserts and tons of base cards. I might also be open to buying items to complete sections of this set. I only ripped one hobby box and a handful of Blasters.
If anyone can help me take out a chunk of what I need, let me know! I will be happy to help with someone else's list if I happen to have anything you need.
Base Variations: All except #419 (I'm not looking for different colored backs, flip stock, blue border, etc., just the action/error/TB, Traded, RC variations)
This can be taken with a grain of salt as I do not intend on collecting this set at this time.
Is it just me or does this set look visually boring? From the pictures posted, there seems to be an inordinate number of spring training "blue sky" portraits. I am not arguing for all action shots. I really like posed shots in the MLB stadiums that have a lot of background. Spring training shots are just boring.

The actual 68 set was no different. They're just keeping with the essence of that set.

Agreed. With regard to the photography used, 68-70 were pretty bad. A lot of spring training photos along with the expectation of expansion led to pretty boring cards. The introduction of action photos and an increase in posed stadium photos in 71 made for a dramatic and welcomed change.
My sarcasm meter has been a little off lately, so I'm not sure if he's serious or not. If he is, "Walt" might be the only guy out there who's capable of complaining about collation when a /25 Bryant auto comes out of a $10 hanger box.
I'll take crappy collation like that eight days a week.
I Don't see Walt as complaining about his hit. But I agree the collation is off this year I was nine hobby boxes into the set and I still need 5 base cards.

No. I've got all three action variations in hand, but none of the color variations or SSP variations (Seager without the trophy and Madera throwback). They're all relatively attainable except for the Maeda - those throwbacks are stupidly expensive.
Still need most of the team set, too, but have 2/3 of the SPs.
Went by Nathan's shop this week (1980's Collector) and what a neat place. People in there cracking open boxes they purchased, guys looking through boxes for cards they needed, kid and his dad brought in a Reggie White auto - just like the good old days. I picked up some supplies and a pair of Heritage boxes to open with Jr and the wife. Cracked one open this evening while watching college hoops - not a bad hit on the first box

Hope I haven't missed the boat on trading. Got my case when it came out and tacked on a blaster case. I was quite pleased as I got 17 autos/game used, meaning I got 5 of the 12 blaster boxes. Wish there would have been a few more Rangers, but hey they didn't have the best record in the American League last year or anything. I tacked on a few a packs/blisters/blasters from Wal Mart for the Dics. May add some from Target. I got normal ratios on my In Actions, Color Swap, SPs, Chrome, Refractors, and Purple Chromes. Sorry for the long read, but hopefully we swing a few trades. Yes I will trade the autos and other high end inserts for Action Images and Color Swaps, but I'm going to need several.
Big thanks to Matt for helping to knock down my first trade of the year. I'll publicize my needs/wants shortly.
Just got back from local Target and ALL Blasters were gone. Had to settle for 4 fat packs and a pair of Hangers. 2 Fatties in and got a pair of Highs and a Seager /999. Seager was a great hit for a Dodger fan.
From what I can tell, after 3 hobbies,
I've yet to hit an error, color swap, or back variation. Swaps are easy enough to tell, but do errors or back variations carry a different code or do you just need to look closely?
Also, do those "hits" reside where the rest do or can they be found anywhere in a pack?
Thanks.
Jim
52-90 All Sports, Mostly Topps, Mostly HOF, and some assorted wax.
Personally I would buy 9.99 boxes over the blasters. In my last 8 9.99 boxes I have pulled two autographs and one auto jersey. The ones with the coupons seem to be loaded.
The codes are different for the throwbacks and error backs.

I have had better luck with blasters,

I think the chromes for this year pop the best of any year I have seen. Has a lot to do with the card design I think.

Walt that's outstanding I would love to have pulled that Bryant.
That's a great hit out of $9.99 retail box. If it was me, it would have been a Prince Fielder relic. Ha.
Great hit I would love to have that.
Excellent score.
hey if anyone has a spare bryant sp #500 to trade, let me know...i have plenty of extras of most things....

Hey Geordie, your sarcasm meter is broken.
Sincerely
Walt
Kinda what I figured. Allergy season has been horrific this year - it's throwing me off my game in more ways than this.

Clubhouse - Freddie Freeman, Joey Votto, and Joe Mauer.
No. I've got all three action variations in hand, but none of the color variations or SSP variations (Seager without the trophy and Madera throwback). They're all relatively attainable except for the Maeda - those throwbacks are stupidly expensive.
Still need most of the team set, too, but have 2/3 of the SPs.

I nabbed an Adrian Gonzalez relic card if needed.

Hope we can do some trading!
Thanks,
Andy
Hope I haven't missed the boat on trading. Got my case when it came out and tacked on a blaster case. I was quite pleased as I got 17 autos/game used, meaning I got 5 of the 12 blaster boxes. Wish there would have been a few more Rangers, but hey they didn't have the best record in the American League last year or anything. I tacked on a few a packs/blisters/blasters from Wal Mart for the Dics. May add some from Target. I got normal ratios on my In Actions, Color Swap, SPs, Chrome, Refractors, and Purple Chromes. Here are some of the highlights...

Sorry for the long read, but hopefully we swing a few trades. Yes I will trade the autos and other high end inserts for Action Images and Color Swaps, but I'm going to need several.

What I'm selling

Thanks.
Jim
Personally I would buy 9.99 boxes over the blasters. In my last 8 9.99 boxes I have pulled two autographs and one auto jersey. The ones with the coupons seem to be loaded.
The codes are different for the throwbacks and error backs.
