You mean this one?
"Dual-dated, High Relief coin with raised edge lettering part of plans "
All, the bells and whistles, includes the kitchen sink, i.e. .raised edge lettering
Uh-oh.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I get the feeling they won't be selling very many of these.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
"Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value---zero."----Voltaire
"Everything you say should be true, but not everything true should be said."----Voltaire
I certainly hope so!!
Thanks for posting the dual view pic!
When is the coin to become available?
A Truth That's Told With Bad Intent
Beats All The Lies You Can Invent
It's not terrible. I like it better than many recent mint pieces. The raised edge lettering is kind of cool.

Ugly design,,,,,,,, new lowest mintage coin
it needs even more relief to bring it to life
I think with even more relief the cheek and forehead will look better.
from what I can tell, despite the angle, the hair detail seems more natural looking than past releases.
the one star at the top is positioned awkwardly.
oh, and it is "Profile of Liberty with stars," yet the artistic committees say there is unleased talent in the Mint waiting to pump out great new designs.
Probably get the silver version only, if there is one.
Box of 20
I've said it before; I think this is a very good looking coin. It seems I am in the minority on this one though.
I think that the "glamour shot" of the coin looks good. My fear is that they'll mint about 50,000 of them and leave them on sale for the next 5 years.
I knew it would happen.
I like the obverse, I just wish the stars were smaller.
The reverse, though.. come on! It's uninspired high school year book art of an eagle. I was hoping for a Connecticut Half Dollar type eagle or an '84 commem dollar type.
I would have skipped the eagle all together and done a high relief liberty bell.
Definitely has potential. Very much looking forward to seeing the actual coin.
Anyone know the significance of 4 supersized, enormous stars? Not a fan.
This thread will get dangerously political and even veer into racism.
There is absolutely no reason a woman of color cannot be on a coin as opposed to a white woman, other than tradition. Women not being able to vote used to be a tradition, too.
I'm getting tired of stuffy old white men on coins, and that's coming from a stuffy old white man.
Spkrmakr , come on. Washington's Mount Vernon would have only been a dream if it had not been for the contributions of African-American slaves. They deserve a place on our coinage because our coinage reflects our history.
I wonder if there were the same objections over an Italian model being used on the 1921 Peace Dollar.
America is not now, and has never been, just about whites.
The "another profile of Liberty with Tiara" is the fail. blindingly repetitive.
While it would be a blindingly obvious play, i think a use of Liberty in conjunction with with a nod to African-American history would be better.
Otherwise there are tweaks in the current design I'd like to see.
Don't like anything about it. They could have done so much more with the subject matter.
Liberty is an abstract ideal. I would not call it mythical.
We have had a Native American on the Buff. No complaints. Of course there were "Indians" on our old gold. Those were circulating coins.
What is the big deal with using an AA depiction?
Their number came up.
(Ps don't forget all the mixed race people)
I enjoy reading about coins and learning about the people on the boards. I do not like to read political opinions on this forum. For that there are far too many outlets. I am an old white man. Not everyone is. It would be good if we could remember that.
This is the first that I have heard of this criticism, though I can't say I disagree. However, it seems that this is what collectors have long asked for. Resurrecting past, used designs of Liberty is also "repetitive", but many would prefer it.
The word "LIBERTY" is far too large and the stars are far too large.
It looks like a cartoon figure drawn by a five year old.
Reduce these to more in size with the other lettering and the coin would be much improved.
And, therein likes the rub..."their number came up"...as mentioned by a previous poster, it shows this is PC related.
It also, to me, and likely some others, is not an attractive design.
I don't get "groundbreaking 'design' ". I don't see it. What is groundbreaking about the design? Incuse AND ultra high relief? Oblong or square? 3D projection? What is so groundbreaking?
It may do well for some, but I won't be buying it as I don't see a design that looks like something I would want.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
The thing that I don't like about it is the stars...they look like Liberty's daughter made the "crown" for her in kindergarten.
Hope it comes out better than the prototypes which IMHO prefaced what looked like would be a missed opportunity to have a truly stunning design like the original St. Gaudens.
The cartoonish over sized stars and lettering, as well as the overall design are OK, but more suitable for a commemorative. It is just not up to the artistic standards that one would expect for a significant anniversary gold coin.
I totally agree with the criticism of over sized stars... other than that, I find it an attractive coin. Cheers, RickO
I think the stars ruined what could have been a nice coin.
They are way out of proportion and instead of LIBERTY it comes out looking like LIRFRTY
Also the inside of her ear looks like a 5th star framed between the two points of the star above it.
Hopefully they'll do a silver version and the design might look better on a larger sized coin?
I'd buy one of each and It could be a good investment if everybody hates it and sales are very low.
I could sell it for a small fortune if somebody else decides they like it years down the road.
I like some aspects of the coin, but like most said, the stars are just out of wack. Coins designs are like art, the responses to it, tell more about the viewer than the artist, especially when they go off on some rant. ;~)
Not a fan. I'd prefer something more traditional. Less trendy. No star headband... makes me think she just got out of a dance fitness lesson at the Y.
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
I personally don't like the edge lettering as the 3 raised points on the edge were the dies come together give it a cheap look or the "made in China" look as we call it in my machine shop.
If this is the design that won, I don't want to see the ones that were runners-up. I do not think the AA community will be thrilled either with the depiction of Liberty
I will get as many as I can as I love the design and I love that it is in gold.
Times they are a changing.
I'm still on the fence, Miles. Some years, I sit on the fence for the whole time.
I knew it would happen.
I really dislike the reverse! The eagle looks sad and defeated, definitely not soaring.

Can't say I am a huge fan of the design. I agree that the stars seem to be way too large and think it would be much better without the headband entirely. Gtstang is right though about the eagle, the bird looks like it is defeated and something about it's talon is off to me. I also sincerely hope the "W" mintmark on the reverse is not that large.
At the issue price I will be putting my money into coins closer to 1792 than 2017.
not sure if there is any aspect of it that is appealing. Maybe the dual dates.
Now this video should pump everyone up.........

I'm not sure if it was stated elsewhere, but it looks like the release date will be April 6th...
"The Mint will announce additional information about the 2017 American Liberty 225th Anniversary Gold Coin prior to its release on April 6."

Best pic I've seen yet....

Kind of reminds me of one of those pattern coins.
pumpalicious, got to hand it to the Mint," how to bore everyone to death" vid
If you need it larger...

Thank you @nurmaler......
and one last angle from http://www.coinnews.net/2017/01/12/american-liberty-225th-anniversary-gold-coin-unveiled/
I expect this will be beautifully minted -- to showcase the High Relief features and raised edge lettering. Hopefully the quality control will be top-notch too.
But the design issues... arggh!

It reminds me of grade school. When you did well on homework you got a "gold star" on your paper. These stars look like those Gold stars stuck to the side of her head and in this case they really are "gold" stars.
I'm on the fence as well as to buy or not to buy.
It's easy to obsess on Liberty's star headband......way too prominent IMHO.
Well now I'm back on the fence for the same reason. They can tell the story better. Adknowledge the slavery background while looking forward. Maybe a woman stooped over a cotton field and another stooped over a microscope?
They are the oldies. Also, the oldies have that throwback panache. Adding a newb of the same flavor and without the throwback panache is repetitive and plain. Plus, there are flaws in the execution. That top star cannot sit the way it does and be a normal looking tiara of stars all the way around. Also, the relief is not high enough to impart the definition of the cheek in the drawing. In fact, I'll add that using the proper definition in the cheek bone would further highlight the high relief nature of the coin and add some dramatic effect.
We've had stars, caps, poles, wheat, cotton, olive branches, etc. Only the stars are there. Besides missing an opportunity to play the Liberty-AA connection, the artists waiting to be unleashed disappoint in what they do provide. I listened to the CACC conference call regarding the previous high relief Liberty. Had you heard that call you would think something unbelievable would arise. Both the previous Liberty release and this one disappoint in the artistic representation and disappoint with the elements in the designs.
I don't hate them. I don't dislike them. After the call, I expected a lot more. These aren't it.
