My Favorite FUN Show purchase
I bought this 1880 gold dollar from the FUN show auction. I was the last coin I needed to finish my "short set" of Type III Gold Dollars, which runs from 1880 to 1889. It's in an old green label PCGS holder and is graded MS-65. It has a very impressive P-L look to it as many gold dollars do from the 1880s.
The mintage on this coin is only 1,600 pieces, but it was widely hoarded which makes it a bit more common than you might expect.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Sweet coin! It shows beautifully without the prongs around it. Enjoy!

I like it! It looked even nicer in person. Congrats on finishing your "short set."

Bill I figured it was your favorite but I loved that giant medal you obtained also. But the frost on this gold dollar when you see it in hand, well, as I told Bill, I like it in a 66 holder.
Best, SH
Nice, glad you were able to find a coin you needed
I suppose I should post a picture of "the giant medal." I'll do that under a new topic.
wow! Nice! Good to see a familiar face on here Bill!

It looks high end. Tough year for some of the other gold coins like the $20 Lib. in Unc..
It is under "George Meade."
I love all BillJones coins
Dang that's nice.
Very attractive gold dollar! I like those P-L's from the '80's.
Very nice.
Purty gold.
Pretty coin Bill. The frost gives it a great look.
Beautiful piece of gold. Congrats.

Very good looking 1880. I watched that one during the auction. Lots of people liked it and rightfully so.

I had posted mine before as one of my favorites of the year.
Nice!
Those suckers are so small, I'm surprised they didn't all get lost.
Very nice
Beautiful looking coin Bill!
