I know cellphone picts 1833
I like to think I grade on the harsh side...we would all look better in MS 65.

Cleaned and too shinny for a Bust coin for me......unless it's a rare die marriage.

I see some luster, along with wear and plenty of hairlines, but no dirt.

AU53/55 details. Whether it grades or not is anyone's guess.

Is that the same coin? There seems to be weakness in "...RIB..." of E PLURIBUS, in the OP that I don't see in the ebay listing...

The coin in the OP I think has 50 details, remaining luster in some of the devices, but has been cleaned. The surfaces on the NGC coin look off to me... like it might have been dipped long ago and are just dead after years in plastic... just MHO...

Sorry... other way around... weakness in the ebay listing and not in the OP coin...

Ikenefic, not the same coin...different die marriages--both of which are fairly common . The original, IMO, is a cleaned AU. From the pics, I STILL prefer it to the NGC coin shown above.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

AU-50 sharpness, cleaned with some hairlines. It MIGHT make "market acceptable" at NGC; it probably won't at PCGS. The area above the eagle's head could be the deal breaker.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Hard to say if the cleaning is acceptable or not. I'd call it low AU and guess that $150 is a little high for a readily available, raw 1830's bust half.

I concur. I prefer the OP coin to the listing on ebay. I think there's a possibility of the cleaning toning back or at lease be market acceptable at some point in the future. The NGC coin just looks too dull grey to me. Maybe it's better in hand, but from the pics, I'd pass.

Looks AU wear-wise, but too shiny..

Here is my 1833 PCGS XF45 CAC for comparison.

    Cleaned AU.

Even though Christmas is tomorrow ... there still is no Santa Claus in numismatics. You can find nicer EF examples with a bit of searching and nicer AU examples for a bit more money. Why buy someone else's problem coin? The OP CBH is not a rare coin. Don't settle ... keep looking.

From where I sit, I see XF45 to AU50 details, harshly cleaned.

Too bad it isn't "down and dirty". I was hoping to see a "crustier" one.

But I was expecting something in lower grade, too, so you at least have some strong details on that one.

Would've been better "dirty" than "cleaned" in this particular case, unfortunately.

I see it as an XF45, lightly cleaned. There's enough original color and surface that I wouldn't call it harshly cleaned, but it's definitely somewhat hairlined from a cloth and abrasive cleaner. I think it's worth closer to $100, but I no longer deal in these very often.

    Thanks for all your replies.
The down and dirty was a cell phone picture reference.
I did take a pass on it...local seller said they bought it for $120 for a customer, but the guy didn't show.
