Ironic that when CAC first opened, PCGS would delete CAC discussion threads. But nowadays ...

... PCGS is actually using CAC percentages to promote themselves as being superior to the other TPG. I guess that speaks volumes for how successful and important CAC has become been since its inception.

You can't fight against popular trends or you become like King Canute....Been there, I can be pretty inflexible if I know I am right. Health food stores used to not stock caffeine or alcoholic beverages in their stores, now they all have them.
Yes, and I recall when I wrote a show report that contained information about the CAC launch that the show report was removed, as well.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
CAC is one of the best things that ever happened to PCGS. And one of the worst for NGC.

Time heals wounds.
Also, if I recall, some folks around here, when CAC started, were using the results to "call out" PCGS and some of the grades.
Ie...."I sent xxx to CAC and it didn't sticker...PCGS muffed up". That type of stuff.
I think a lot of that has gone by the wayside now as more people have a better understanding that a coin can still be good for the grade, PCGS did NOT "muff up", and it still won't get a CAC sticker for whatever reason.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
whats CAC?
A better guarantee on the grade for people who wanted one.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

I assume that's an inside joke?
Just Bing it.

@LeoMessi....CAC is the FPG... Fourth Party Grader.... They will sticker a coin (green label) if they agree it is solid for the grade, and gold label if they believe it is better than the assigned grade. Cheers, RickO
Once they got a whiff of the glue , both houses realized their foundations might crumble if they didn't face the reality that grading was not only subjective, but seriously scrutinized.
The results were higher costs and greater values. And while it benefitted a few, the masses still wade through sub par pieces. (Coins without stickers)!! Anyway, that's what I'm seeing .... not necessarily believing though.

No, a coin without a sticker means that either it wasn't sent to CAC, or that CAC didn't want to be obligated to buy the coin, at some point, so they didn't sticker it. To make a blanket statement that a non-stickered coin is subpar is a big stretch, and I think incorrect. CAC makes its money buying and selling coins, not stickering them.

Do you seriously think that Bing does not do the same thing? Albeit not as well granted, but if they could do it as well as Google they would. Not a question of Ethics, but of technical/competitive ability.
If you want to understand the value of CAC try this experiment. Take 20 coins that have never been to CAC and send them in. When they come back, put all the ones that beaned on the right, and put the rest on the left. If you do not notice a difference between the batches, you REALLY need to only buy CAC coins. If you do, then you will appreciate CAC and respect what they have done for the hobby.
Since this thread was started I have anxiously been waiting for the leadership at PCGS to take down this thread and all other CAC threads for say the first 5 pages of the forum. I would find it slightly ironic and humorous to make a point of them not doing something, then just in spite or "oh yeah, that's what we forgot to do", PCGS deletes all threads that are like mini cheerleaders for CAC. I'll go brew a pot of coffee and get comfy and watch.....
Chance favors the prepared mind.
GC- I think they eventually gave up trying to police it somewhere along the line and/or PCGS realized it was a good thing as RR mentioned. Nothing beats the the PCGS/CAC combo.
AMRC- good points

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
There are still some old timers in my town who don't believe in sending their coins to anyone. They're called curmudgeons, in some circles.

CAC effectively grades the graders by confirming coins solid for the grade assigned. I can see that the powers at one time probably felt a bit intimidated by being "second guessed". Like everything else though, I'm guessing PCGS actually saw more good than harm coming out of Far Hills, NJ and eventually embraced what they are doing as a good thing for the hobby and PCGS as well.
Why do you say that? If you truly value John's opinion, then wouldn't a NGC CAC coin be worth the same as a PCGS CAC coin? Wasn't that part of JA's theory behind CAC?
This got me wondering if CAC has different standards for each grading service? What NGC calls a 65 might not be what PCGS does, so does CAC judge on their own standards or the standards of the individual company the coin is holdered by?
CAC supposedly has its own set of standards that are the same for each company.
how about your internet service provider. ask the people in the UK.
not sure why pcgs would delete this thread. It is overwhelmingly positive for pcgs
