ANA Launches Membership Drive

Press release from the ANA:

Collectors who have been on the fence about joining the American Numismatic Association now have an additional reason to sign up. The ANA is offering a limited-edition Mint State (MS)-69 American Silver Eagle for new members who join at the Platinum level. The Silver Eagle premium, specially labeled by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for the ANA’s 125th anniversary, is also available to current members who renew for an additional three years.

Only 2,500 of the encapsulated MS-69 ANA 125th Anniversary Silver Eagles will be issued.

A limited-edition 125th anniversary MS-70 NGC specimen also is available with a new ANA life membership ($600 to $1,200). Only 250 will be issued, making it a sought-after collectible.

“The ANA is celebrating 125 years of numismatic education, camaraderie, and promotion of the hobby,” says ANA President Jeff Garrett. “We hope our 2016 Silver Eagle membership campaign will entice new collectors to discover what the ANA has to offer, and serve as a gesture of appreciation to our loyal members.”

The Silver Eagle premium offered in the ANA membership drive is made possible through the support of NGC, Minshull Trading, Heartland Precious Metals, Universal Coin & Bullion, Kagin’s Inc., Mid-American Rare Coin, and Monaco Rare Coins.

The American Numismatic Association, the largest nonprofit organization in the world dedicated to encouraging the study and collection of coins and related items, provides its 25,000 members access to the best educational programs in the hobby – seminars, lectures, correspondence courses, a numismatic lending library – plus the opportunity to engage with like-minded collectors at two annual conventions.

The ANA’s monthly magazine, The Numismatist, remains the gold standard of hobby publications and features lavishly illustrated articles written by leading numismatic experts. In December 2015, the ANA digitized all 128 volumes of the magazine, from 1888 to the present, allowing members to experience The Numismatist in its historical context free of charge.

For additional information about membership in the nonprofit, congressionally chartered American Numismatic Association, call 1-800-514-COIN (2646), email membership@money.org, or visit www.money.org.

Just signed my 14yo up for the platinum as a gift.

If it comes with the SAE, it will be a great gift for him indeed.

The only reason I'm an ANA member is for the coin insurance through Hugh Wood Inc.

Ok sorry for not being clear. Do you not see any value in the ANA for a collector other than insurance?

I'm a life member. If I recall correctly, I got a free fly rod when I joined many years ago. It is an important organization for collector's and I think for dealers as well. I have resolved at least on substantial complaint on behalf of another using the ANA's ethics rules and complaint procedures. And, importantly, I have attended many ANA seminars and learned a great deal from the ANA, its members and its teachers. Finally, the museum, library, teachers and staff have been wonderful to me over the years.

While, clearly, there have been problems with the ANA over the years, that is not a reason to abandon the orgainzation; rather, it is a reason to become more involved with our hobby and with the ANA.

I don't mean to knock the organization in a membership campaign thread because they do have some useful benefits and programs, like the money museum, magazine (which I do read), boy scouts badges, teachers programs, discounts, etc. but I don't take advantage of those.

But what do I know? I just took the Women in Numismatics Quiz and got this score:

    Whoops!
Sorry, but you scored below 70% on this quiz. This means that no points have been awarded to you. You're welcome to re-take the quiz as many times as you would like until you pass, and earn the points.

Awesome! Thanks for head's up. I just joined (or "re-joined", if you will) and the free ASE makes the cost a little easier.

So, what is there for current life members? Not even an incentive to refer new members?

If you want to grow the organization, you need to do more than bribe those sitting on the fence.

I have never seen an organization do less for lifetime member than the ANA.

    It is disrespectful.

I signed my son up. He has already received the magazine (although he lives online at his age, even for a lot of school stuff, magazines are still cool to have to hold) and the SAE came in a couple of days later, separately.
