No FUN for me this year.

goldengolden Posts: 10,552 ✭✭✭✭✭
For the last several years I have attended 11 show per year. Last year, for 5 different reasons, I only made it to 6 shows. For that reason I was very much looking forward to the 2016 FUN show.

On December 5th our daughter took a fall while she was practicing for a Christmas ice skating show. She did not hit her head on the ice but still had a concussion. She has been doing well and was getting back to normal. Between Christmas and New Years we think that she did too much. She started having migraine headaches. We took her to several doctors. They all said that she needed to rest more.

I had a hotel reservation, had my bags packed and had picked up a rental car. On Wednesday at 2AM we were in the emergency room at the children's hospital. They gave her an IV . We left the hospital at 5:30. I could not possibly leave home with her feeling like she was. She is feeling much better now.

I ask two things. #1. I ask for your prayers that she will continue to improve. #2. I ask that EVERYONE that attends the FUN show please post a show report. Thanks.

My prayers to your little girl. Coins can wait, when the really important stuff needs tending to.

I won't be at the show so I can't post a report. I will just wait expectantly with the rest of us stuck at home.

Your daughter is far more important than any coin could possibly be. Sometimes trips aren't meant to be. I flew down to Puerto Madryn in Argentina and had to return home shortly thereafter.

Yes family first. There is always next year or shows after that this year. Many people do not have the means to justify the travel cost and expense of going to that show let alone the spending required to make all that really worthwhile. You can take what you would spend for the Fun show and apply that to another one. Spending time with your daughter after this mishap is irreplaceable.

I hate migraine headaches. I've had 10 total since 2009 (Been keeping a record since just before heart surgery) and many more before that back to my youth. I'd get plaque blockage in my left eye and my vision becomes impaired. Sensitive to light, head hurts like he!!, sometimes I'd throw up. An aspirin and sleep was usually the way to get through it. But the last few, they come and go within 10-20 minutes. Once tweeted actor Dick Van Dyke who has had the same, said his head would just throb with pain. Told him to sleep without a pillow. Don't know how that turned out for him. I hope your daughter gets to feeling better.

A friend of mine just up and died on January 1st. He touched a lot of lives in 30 years. No FUN for me, either. Maybe one of these years I'll make it. Maybe not. God only knows.

Enjoy your day and love your loved ones. Those guys are preying at the FUN show, don't you fret.

A lot of great reports. Thanks. I have only missed 3 FUN shows since 1973. I missed 1978,2011 and now 2016. 2011 was in Tampa. I could not go because my sister was in the hospital for 45 days. Now this year I had to miss the show in Tampa again. A FUN show in Tampa may not be in the cards for me. image

Next year is Ft Lauderdale and then in 2018 it will be back in Tampa so you will have another chance! image Those two shows will be followed by 3 years in Orlando.

I hope things continue to quickly improve for your daughter! image

Hopefully she feels better soon. Concussions are not fun to deal with.

I use to ice skate and play ice hockey a lot and its a pretty dangerous activity. One time when I was ~13 I was "free skating", someone cut me off and I tripped head first to the ice. Another young girl kicked me in the head with her ice skate (again by accident) when she was doing a spin. Caught me above the eye and the gash went almost to my temple right through my eyebrow. I shut down the rink that day with the amount of blood I lost. A couple weeks later I put my skates back on and did a few laps. I still have the white shirt I was wearing, its now brown.

Hopefully your daughter doesn't lose her love for ice skating.
