And, the first batch, where mine were (first 20 minutes due to mint site having issues when I tried it right after 9am PST), are due from smartpost 9/24 (so, most likely in my hands on 9/25 or 9/26).
Give that some that live closer will likely have them in hand almost any time now (I haven't seen a post with that, but I expect it pretty directly), the 1st strike window will be ticking away and the backordered bunch may squeak in, or some may be just outside the window...
When the catalog is refreshed every morning the backorder dates automatically increase by 1 unless manually adjusted. Was probably late with adjusting. Now it is back to 9/28, however it is very likely they will all be shipped out by the end of next week.
<< <i>Who's to say that these haven't sold out already, and the screwy mint continues to take orders?? It has happened before, people! >>
They do this because there are always some order that are returned, cancelled, or paid with a bad credit card. >>
Actually, I hope they've gone back to the wait list policy. Opening up a sales window for a half-second or so just frustrates those who could get one in their cart before they were told it was gone, and they should really go to those who tried to order while they were still available or backordered. Then they could actually list the product as sold out.
I do wonder if they're doing a wait list, or are sales just... not happening for the JFK set. I thought the Truman/Ike buzz would push the JFK, but maybe not. The higher price point and lower household limits (versus the 2015 $1 American C&C set) could be hurting (or at least slowing) sales.
(Oh, see last sentence, first post of this thread... )

Well, quick! You can still order them on the web site. Order two more! ;-)

Did you order more than 2 sets on separate occasions? If not, US Mint website indicates still available...time for you to pick up the phone and give them a shout.

OPA - Thanks for the advice. Yes but my other orders were accepted and shipped. This order was on a separate CC with a separate bill to/ship to address. The cancellation notice does not mention any issues with the household limit or duplicate orders, only the OOS indication.

Big brother found out and you are guilty.
edited to add: My guess, the address of record for the credit card used, does not match the shipping address.

Were they both under the same mint account? That loophole may have been closed. They are catching up on closing the HH limit loopholes in their system.
Also, as I stated on Saturday, I expect all should be shipped by the end of this week and a sellout should also occur by the end of the week.
My set of 2 arrived this afternoon...no problem coins or medals. Other 2 sets arrived at my brothers house...my sons 2 sets will be delivered tomorrow My x bro. in law's 2 sets are "in process"

HH limits are still in place. Tried to call and order more and they said I can't due to HH limit. Whatever email you got was wrong! Unless you dident order any...

Still no sellout as of 9/22/2015, 5:30 Pacific time. The Mint's web page for this set was saying "backorder" yesterday. Right now it says "add to bag".
I never thought that growing old would happen so fast. - Jim
I did not place my order (USM035643XX) until the evening of 17 Sep. They were backordered by then and I didn't expect to really get them. My order is processing...slower sell out than expected. But I'm glad to be receiving them.
The mint works very hard at killing a profit making set for the flipper or making a coin that every one wants, then every one gets and then no one wants.. They are the only ones that can make a profit and that's it.
I find it weird that there had to be a lot of work put into the packaging for the coins, the booklet and the overall look of the materials is fine....and zero attention to producing quality coins. These are not circ coins...they are special issue reverse proof coins and the quality of most should make those who worked on the packaging very disappointed....and getting medals with milk spots already forming??? Weak....
The market is probably oversaturated with Kennedy from last years 50th Anniversary products. Still have 8 sets (2 in hand and the rest by tomorrow) and will probably just keep them sealed for now. There were probably a lot of cancellations. Sealed sets on ebay are around $75 each. Lot of dumping.
<< <i>Strange that the usmint homepage does not even mention this set. >>
Yes, it was very hard to find the set. Perhaps this is intentional to slow down sales at the kickoff?

I'll probably keep the first order sealed (addressed to me) and open the other (addressed to someone else, and in the post-25K supply).
All of the hype for these coins is totally misguided it appears.
There will be no flippers parade on eBay on this issue.
Whoever bought more than 2 sets of these coins better be a big fan of either Jackie or Jack.
