Can't believe I'm following this thread.......YOU ALL SUCK!
"My friends who see my collection sometimes ask what something costs. I tell them and they are in awe at my stupidity." (Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.
I'm afraid not Russ. That forum member who discovered the 1898 (is that date right?) O micro-O Barber half (it was a half, right) probably will hold the award for some time.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
<< <i>That forum member who discovered the 1898 (is that date right?) O micro-O Barber half (it was a half, right) probably will hold the award for some time. >>
That would be the topper provided it isn't exceeded by Baley's 1807 Draped Bust Half discovery coin. Not sure which of those would be the champion.
Maybe we need two clubs; one for classics and one for moderns.
<< <i>What do you all think is the minimum score requirements for induction into the "You Suck Club"? Marty suggests a profit of 100x the cost minimum. Which basically means turning a cheap coin into $1000 minimum. Opinions, suggestions, etc? >>
How about making a 2004-P MS67 Peace Nickel Pop3/0 (was POP 1/0 when I made it) from a 2.00 Bank Roll? Does that qualify. Sunday one of the other 2 sold at ebay for 511.00, not bad for a .05 coin, but you must factor in the 12.00 PCGS enonomy fee.
I would not want to join the YOU SUCK club if it accepts people like me as members (Sorry, Groucho). For every buy that might qualify me, I have dozens of "you blow" purchases and hundreds of break-evens.
"Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity" - Hanlon's Razor
Do you have to find the "You Suck" coin your self? The reason I ask is I bought a raw coin from one of the "You Suck" founders that was even better than they thought and, well, do I suck?
As an Official member of the "YOU SUCK" club I think it is not so much the value increase as the final value of a coin. If you make, raw a $5K coin then "YOU SUCK!". If you paid a penny for it or a couple of hundred it does not matter you simply suck. its more nuisance, I hate the word, but it makes sense. The level of suckiness is a judgment call that you really can't put a line through, IMO. Certainly an MS66 2004-P Ken half worth $20 is good percentage gain but certainly would not qualify for even a minor "you suck", but My POP 1 MS68 2004-P is a "YOU SUCK". Make sense?... Probably not.
Bought a raw (YES RAW) chain at Central States this year........ Marty and Xpipe have both see this coin.........
Paid "fine" money for it............ It's now in a NGC VF holder........
At very minimum its a 7K score.......... Does that earn me a "you suck", or a "YOU SUCK" ?????
Cam-Slam 2-6-04 3 "DAMMIT BOYS" 4 "YOU SUCKS" Numerous POTD (But NONE officially recognized) Seated Halves are my specialty ! Seated Half set by date/mm COMPLETE ! Seated Half set by WB# - 289 down / 31 to go !!!!! (1) "Smoebody smack him" from CornCobWipe ! IN MEMORY OF THE CUOF

Can't people just plain suck...period. I mean, some of you guys suck...whether or not you score on a rip really doesn't disqualify your suckiness.
We should quantify your suckiness using something like the Basil scale or Sheldon Rarity Scale. You could have a SS-70 for example. Suckiness State 70 would equate to the ultimate in suckiness without distractions. This scale would work out fine since most Modern collectors are the only ones with a legitimate shot at reaching the highest level of suckiness. The classic collectors would have little chance of reaching the highest level of suckiness (this is as it should be).
When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.
I think a 10X profit is the minimum requirement for the club (provided it's a quick turnaround - no 5 year waiting period or anything like that!) I've had a couple of those so I think I qualify (e.g. a '49-P Lincoln in an ICG 66RD holder for $18 that crossed into a 66RD holder at PCGS - roughly $300 now).
However, the example Russ gave above should qualify him for the "YOU SUPER SUCK" club. More adjectives can be added depending upon the "X" factor.

ROFL.
While it's generally accepted that modern collectors reach much higher levels of SS, this may largely just be because they tend to be somewhat newer.
Getting old certainly sucks, but showing off in front of the elders is even suckier.
At 10x I might have a couple ... 100x ... nope ...
but one of my best finds is a 57 Flying Eagle in Choice AU ... paid decent AU money for it too ... only thing is it's an early die state S-8 (mule clash reverse with S.L. 25c), worth ??? ... does that qualify?
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”
Well by these standards, I used to really suck. But unless I can count FS nickels I've made recently at PCGS that I bought ten years ago, I don't suck any more. But I have aspirations of sucking again real soon.

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

One thing for sure is that MadMarty works at it real hard. That's why he sucks so much.
Found a 1956 nickel in a roll that came back 67 full step. Think I paid $4 for the roll so the individual coin cost 10 cents. Sold the coin at the FUN show auction in 2002 for $5,290. Not including grading fees I made 52,290 times cost.
Marty, I may have mentioned this to you in Pittsburgh. I bought an 1888-O Scarface Morgan for $22. This coin is approx. MS62-63 which puts it in the $3000-4500 range. I assume this is an appropriate cherrypick.
PS. this was bought from a dealer who generally marks his VAMs....

I don't suppose the 2009 FY cent errors I found qualify? Even though I had one graded as a MS67 from Anacs with the DDR designation. If I were to send it in to PCGS and get the MS67 grade but without the DDR on the label it would be a $1,450.00 coin. Funny really.
1877 IHC from a coin dealers junk IHC box - for thirty cents. Took the cent back to the dealer....they said no. Traded to another dealer for $35 face value of 90% U.S. silver (when silver was CHEAP!!!).
Turned the 90% into the 1914 D (XF) and 1911 S MS63 Lincoln cents for my collection.
To answer the question......any induction can be considered. Yes, there may actually be levels of, "You Suck"....but everybody here knows one when they see it.
