I really like the 2015 U.S. Marshalls Commemorative Gold Design next year. Nice design but probably will be less interest in the subject matter than last year's 5 star Generals.
<< <i>Not sure I understand this whole curved thing. Is it going to wobble all over in the plastic capsule? >>
The Perth curved coins fit well into capsules. I'm sure that these will also. While new for the U.S. Mint this idea is not new and the TPGs have holdered many of them.
Thanks so much for the great images. I think that The Mint really hit it out of the park on this one (sorry, couldn't resist). The design is fantastic, the fusion of the design with the coins is amazing and the appeal extends far beyond the normal numismatic circles.
I'm in quite a bit on this one, esp. the silver issues.
I heard a rumor that the baseball coins will be available at the Baltimore show this weekend. Can anyone verify this? The US Mint usually doesn't show up at the Baltimore shows.
PCGS Currency: HOF 2013, Best Low Ball Set 2009-2014, 2016, 2018. Appreciation Award 2015, Best Showcase 2018, Numerous others.
<< <i>I heard a rumor that the baseball coins will be available at the Baltimore show this weekend. Can anyone verify this? The US Mint usually doesn't show up at the Baltimore shows. >>
How cool would that be?? The RP ANA phenomenon all over again. The Mint did say that that RP release was a model of things to come.
If anyone has info on this please do tell. The lines would be insane. Needless to say, special Balto. Show pre-release labels would be HUGE with these.
Were the ANA RP Buffs released prior to the on sale date at ANA?
If the Mint sold the HOF coins in Balto it would be on and not before the release date. I can't remember exactly what happened with the timing of the ANA RP buffs.
I was thinking about blowing off the show due to other pressing commitments. I'll be there with the CC ready to go if the HOF are released in Balto - straight from the Mint sales booth to PCGS! Would be AWESOME! Missed the ANA RP party. Won't miss this one - if the rumor is true.
I just got the Mint mailer today - can't wait!
Addendum: I checked the date of the Chicago ANA show. It was a few days after the RP buff sales opened, but well prior to the Mint shipping them. SO hoping that they sell the HOF in Balto. Wonder what the individual limit would be??
The RP Buff ANA release was huge and did very well. A Balto. HOF release would be fantastic also. That said, I hope that the Mint does not do this for more and more issues of the luster will wear off somewhat.
Addended again: I called PCGS Cust. Service. The rep said that he heard the same "rumor" that the Mint will be selling the HOF coins in Balto. on Thursday. I know where I'll be.
I just spoke with the rep ATS and she too said that the HOF will be released in Balto.
Let the frenzy begin.
Question for those luck ones who were at the ANA: Did the line for the Mint booth start prior to opening outside the Conv. Center door or did people just line up at the Mint booth immediately upon getting into the show?
Count me in. I did see on the NGC site that the US Mint will have a limited number of these available on the 27th. I just hope they are not all sucked up by dealers and that the Mint puts a limit so you can only get 1 of each per person.

I agree!! No limit would be crazy w/a limited number of coins.
Early Registration closed now - not worth the effort w/o that as every dealer in the room will have someone standing in line plus all the early birders

Special "Baltimore" label? >>
ATS has confirmed a Special Baltimore Label. I'd be that our hosts will also.
Interesting on the Baltimore Label, but will not really be the ANA label so kind of hard to compare. Better hope they are all 70s, not much of premium for the 69s. What helps is you can at least prescreen the coins before giving to the TPGs. The only special thing would be it was released early. I live in Baltimore, but doubt I will bother with this.
The Buffalo has a loyal collecting following as well as the classic design. This HOF coin is up in the air.
Its one of kind design is in the commemorative series which is not that popular, though the baseball subject matter is popular. Don't know about this one, but not worth it unless you buy a lot and I doubt the mint will be giving this away in large quantities at the show after they see the lines forming.
Not much of an order limit at 50 per on the gold. My guess is the gold's are a sellout in 2 hours or less. These are the first of the first and who doesn't like baseball?
Whelp, if we look at prior offering at around the same price point for the "first of the first" we go back to 2007 with the first spouse gold coins which were priced similarly. Those had total limits of 40K across all options and a household limit of 10 per finish. I can't recall how quick those were gone but thought it was the same day, 4 hours?
Now given the above now make the limit 50 per finish...In any event it's gonna be nuts...
I think the gold will sell out the first day. Too irresistible for the dealers not to speculate on these. I think the collectors will be locked out and the price driven up for these.
I personally will just buy one of each and if they look good (though have no way of gauging a 70 on these because of the curvature) I will take advantage of the PCGS Quaterly Special First Strike Labeling of these. I may load up on the clads though.
Right now dealers are holding off on the presales of these. Either they don't want to sell the 70s too cheaply or really have no idea how these new coins will grade out.
<< <i>Just read the ordering limits announcement on coinworld.com.
➤ Proof and Uncirculated gold $5 coins — 50 coins each
➤ Proof and Uncirculated silver dollars — 100 coins each
➤ Proof and Uncirculated copper-nickel clad half dollars — 100 coins each >>
It really is just impossible to understand how the Mint could set such high limits for these, esp. the Gold. The whole concept of open order periods for limited issues (RP buff, etc) was in response to the instant sell out and lock out of many collectors w/the 2011 ASE Anniv. Sets. Now, instead of having a 5/HH limit on the gold and say a 10/hh on the silver they have these huge limits which will likely result in bulk dealer orders shutting a lot of collectors out. How can the Mint be so clueless??

Last time we had something even close was in 2007 with the release of the spouse gold another "first of the first". The price points were very similar. IIRC, the mint was sold out 80,000 gold coins (Martha and Abagail) 40K each across all options unc and proof for each in record time...and that was with a HH limit of 10 per finish.
I think most we be stuck in the mint's waiting room forever. I did get the paper order form for the baseball coins.
I wonder if they will honor the paper forms when and if the gold sell out today.
This is from the mint website
"These coins commemorate important aspects of American history and culture, so we want to make sure a maximum number of customers have an opportunity to purchase this coin," said United States Mint Deputy Director Dick Peterson. "We had anticipated strong interest in this coin from the outset. However, the interest in the past few days prior to the coin even going on sale has caused us to take this action. We will evaluate these ordering limits on a regular basis and adjust or remove them accordingly."
It says the mint will adjust or remove the limits accordingly. If the gold does sell out and there is a huge waiting list, my guess is they will adjust the limits from 50 to 10 or 5 each per household after the ordering window when enough of their regular mint customers complain to them or serveral of the coin magazines. I remember when the first year of the spouses sold out from the subscriptions, they nixed the subscription route.

Here's your answer in regard to the gold commemorative per the US Mint Website: Pricing for the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Coin Program Proof $5 Gold Coin could vary weekly dependent upon the London Fix weekly average gold price. Due to the possibility of pricing fluctuations, no mail orders will be accepted.
Probably a non-issue since the gold coins will very likely sell out before snail mail would ever reach the mint.

Update from Balto. Bought early bird ticket at door. In line @ mint booth. Limits: 1 of each gold, 5 each silver and clad. Coins on display. Look fantastic!!! Sales start @ noon.
With a limit of 50 per order, the gold coins could theoretically sell out in only 1000 orders. You know the big boys and their minions are going to jump in full tilt. Subtract out the ones that the mint is taking to Baltimore and you're got the setup for a very quick sellout (as a number of posters have predicted), like maybe in the first hour or two. My original plan was to make several small orders and keep a few "sealed FS eligible" boxes for the future. That plan is now out the window in favor of maxing out early. Who knows if I'll be able to even get a second order placed before they go dark...

Will do. My son is first in line. In his Oriles uniform. Will get first one sold. Mint asked if OK to take pic. So cool.
I was logged in to my mint account and got placed in the waiting room at 11:45 Eastern. I wonder if this will be any better than trying to log in at noon? What will get first priority?
