1-27-2015 Update: Included are recent photos taken by Todd at the 2015 FUN Show -- look for the With Arrows Type Coin [1873-CC Half Dollar], the Ten Dollars [1892-CC] and the Twenty Dollars, Type 2 [1876-CC].
4-17-2014 Update: I received many nice comments while recently exhibiting this set at the Georgia Numismatic Association's 50th Anniversary Coin Show, held April 11-13, 2014, in Dalton, GA. In addition to the coins, I had some related ephemera on display. These included an 1874 Bullion Receipt from the Carson City Mint (for over 11,000 ounces of silver) and an 1877 Certificate of Deposit from the the Carson City Savings Bank for $80.00 ($20.00 in silver and $60.00 in gold). Also included was an 1888 Rand, McNally & Co. map of the State of Nevada and a number of photographs from the NBC television series "Bonanza," featuring the Cartwright clan.
As I was busy much of the time with my show duties (as Educational Exhibits Manager), I had little time to search for coins on the bourse floor. Not to worry: a friend mentioned (while viewing my exhibit) that he had a green label 1876-CC (Type 2) Twenty that would fill one of the holes in the set. On Saturday morning he retrieved the piece from his safe deposit box and brought it to the show. I liked it a lot and soon the piece changed hands. I will get Todd to image it later. The images are courtesy of BluCC Photos and Coin Rarities Online...

<< <i>Very nice! Are you going after every dollar as well? Seated and trade? >>

very nice.

This set has been a lot of fun and has eased some of the frustration of trying to complete my Dahlonega gold set. I'll add the new coin photos to the original post, as soon as I can get Todd to shoot them.

The half, I think, is my favorite. The SLD is a close second. Last year I bought a nice CC 20-cent in PCGS 45 for the type, and now I want to do all the denominations like you have done. Great set!

<< <i>The set has been updated in the Original Post... >>
Thanks for the updating. Here are some photos I took this month which update your Ponderosa theme as well. The paddle wheeler at Lake Tahoe is reportedly the one that replaced one of same or similar name that was filmed in the Bonanza TV series. The other view is Cave Rock on the shores of Lake Tahoe taken just a few miles north of where the
Bonanza filmed Paddle Wheeler would have been docked.
<< <i>Your thread brings back fond childhood memories of watching that TV show.

i never was a fan of the tv show. i tried watching it a bunch, but never could get into it. however, i really like the idea of set and i especially like the coins you have picked!

<< <i>Beautiful set, The 93-CC $10 looks to be way undergraded to my eyes. Should easily get a Gold sticker.Looks 53 to me. >>
In the early days of the TPGs, they were especially tough on grading dirty, original gold. Unfortunately, that led to a lot of the aforementioned being dipped, much to the chagrin of the sophisticated collector of rare date gold.
Congrats!!
Oh huh, nevermind I missed the compass rose on that map.
<< <i>That's a great set. I like your sliver the best.
Oh huh, nevermind I missed the compass rose on that map. >>
Thanks for all of the very nice comments. Putting together the set has truly been a labor of love. I started the CC Type Set in part to relieve the frustration associated with my Dahlonega set (I'm about two-thirds finished), where it can be tough finding anything that you can use.
BTW, the map referred to above is the one used in the opening credits of "Bonanza," as well as being on the wall behind Ben Cartwright's desk.
Among some others, that Carter 78-CC certainly looks undergraded.
