Charlotte Mint Gold - $1842-C $2 1/2
Picked this up recently and sent to PCGS... good news, authentic and AU details... bad news small rim dent on obverse below and left of 1 in date kept it from grading AU50-55. Has all the eye appeal of a nice AU coin and the dent is hardly noticeable unless you're looking for it. Properly graded however, there is a rim dent. ' Still a very rare coin... only about 200 known.

Looks like the coin in the OP might have had a little processing from the pictures... To bad the rim is damaged.
Edit: Can't help but post my 42-C...

<< <i>I'm not seeing this as SPAM. I would never had known it was for sale. >>
Typically any coin that is actively being offered for sale shouldn't be posted except on the BST. While a grey area, the intent is to drum up interest and hope someone finds it's listing. Even if that is not the OP real purpose that is what people will think which will quickly discredit the poster locally here at least.

agreed with.
Educational, that's what it is.
For sale elsewhere? Not relevant.

As for "spam" claims, I really don't care about that. If I can learn something about a coin from the advertising that used to sell it, I can over the commercialism very easily. Some the best references around are old auction catalogs from the major sales conducted and written by top notch auctioneers like Q. David Bowers.

And who made up these rules, you and a few other self-appointed forum cops ? ! ? !
Or is there a rule book that I haven't seen other than the pasty at the top?
I mean . . . no where in the original thread is it mentioned that this coin is for sale . . .

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

I'm glad someone else sees it as the US Coin Forum is for show-n-tell not show-n-sell.
One of the unwritten rules of proper etiquette or conduct on this forum since I've been a member has been...
If you have a coin that's already listed for sale somewhere or your getting ready to sell shortly do not promote on the US Coin Forum as that's spam.
<< <i>Not spam. There's no offer to sell the coin. Not all of us wade through every link posted. >>
That is true. I rarely look at the buy and sell page. Sorry, but I tend to form relationships with a limited number of dealers when it comes to postage and on-line purchases. I'll buy from just about anybody at a show (sight - seen basis), but I've had too many instances of where the seller was trying sell something "to see if it will stick" which is a waste of both of our times.
I had no idea that this item was on the buy and sell page, and from my perspective, I really don't care.
Just my two cents....

Just because you don't see a problem with it or click every little link doesn't have any impact of the etiquette system of the online era. What do you think the board would do if a big time dealer posted a coin from on their site talking about how cool and rare and under graded it is. With a link in their sigline to a place why you could buy said amazing, cool and rare under graded master piece. Could any of us see
CRO doing this?

While not the biggest of infractions it isn't that classy of one either.
