May Mail-Call!

Hi everyone

I just got this today from Topps. I bought the LA Champions set last Sep and it's just coming in. Bad news.

Good news? Included was a Kershaw auto card 02/49

    Thanx Bobby.

Just hang in there - when I talked to a rep - Andy - he told me the best thing is to be patient - if you press substitute it just pushes you back down on the list.

Just wanted to add something that I forgot that I got last month.

As a prior Mets fan - when the Dodgers abandoned us in NY - I jumped to the Amazin' Mets.

    1969 NY Met World Champions:

It's a bit tone/aged but in really good shape.

I just made my first venture into "OLD" cards. Until today, I didn't own a card older than 1954. After doing a lot of browsing and research, I decided to purchase this 1911 T-205 card of Cubs Pitcher John R. "Harry" McIntire. The card is labeled MC for miscut, but it only seems to affect the back side of the card. The front is near dead center. The gold border is beat up some but heck, the card is over 100 years old. This guy helped the Cubs win the pennant in 1910 and pitched in relief (5 innings) during the 1910 World Series which the Cubs lost to the Philadelphia Athletics. Here is some footage believe it or not:

Happy to have added a 57' Bill Russell recently. It seems nicer than some of the 8's I have seen. A classic card in collecting!

Congrats. The image quality is outstanding on that 7.5. Well done.

    That Russell is amazing. Congrats.

Big month for me. Working on a 52 set so knew I’d have to take the plunge eventually. Liked this card presentation wise and threw a last minute bid on it and it stuck. Have always wanted an Aaron rookie. Saw this one for sale and they accepted my offer. Feel very fortunate to be able to add these to my collection.

52 low # commons for the foreseeable future!

    Scott

Scott sweet pickup with the 52 Mantle. That card looks great for the grade. I would love to some day add one to my collection in that condition. Congrats.

Thanks very much for the kind words. A touch of paper loss on the back accounts for the grade. I’ve always been okay with back issues if the front presents well for the grade. I think it looks like a 3 or low end 4 from the front.

The Gibson has always been one of my favorite T206’s for some reason. Love that card.

The CJ Cobb is insane by the way. What a card. Love the pose.

Jimminy Skidmarks -- Mantle, Russell, Mantle, Aaron, Brett -- it's all down hill from here, my friends.

A little bit of the old "all over the place."

Wonder if that card comes in a Superfractor?

Here's my May pickups so far. I'm picking up some of the key 80's baseball rookies I loved as a kid. I had to have a Derek Rivers rookie, One, I grew up with him mother and two, it has my home town / state on the front of his card.

I really like '70's OPC baseball with the clear, rich photos and rough-cut edges. Here is a '78 Buckner I picked up for my set. I also picked up a '57 Podres for my '57 T baseball set build. Lower grade '57's are sufficient for my tastes.

Found a low graded centered at a good price.

Looks way under graded? Nice pickup.

I was at Columbia U when Reggie played for the Yanks. Attended quite a few "bleacher" games back then.

Reggie was a "fan favorite to hate" back then.

Me? He helped them win 2 WS back then - unlike others with big portfolios - Reggie performed in October.

My latest pickup is a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers era collectible that is cool for a number of reasons. One, chances are pretty good it originated from Ebbets Field - since that's where Team Issues tended to be sold most often. Two, it's the man, the myth, the legend himself: Jackie Robinson; one of baseballs biggest icons that is a little under represented in my collection. Last, the 1955-57 Team Issue Picture Packs, in general and of any team, can be hard to find and are somewhat condition sensitive so even though the grade of VG-EX is not overly impressive in and of itself, PSA 7 is currently the highest graded, the eye appeal is outstanding for the grade and PSA has graded only nine other examples in addition to this one.

Love that "Bambi", congratulations! He is owed a debt of gratitude by Dallas Cowboys fans everywhere for his tremendous touchdown catch in Super Bowl VI against the Miami Dolphins. An amazing player and touching story. Glad the card has found such a great home.
