Decision time. Grade in on 27-d buff. Keep the 64 or the 58?

I thought Coin 2 was going to be the forever coin. Still may be. I grabbed Coin 1 raw as I thought it was under appreciated. Coin 1 has great luster, and super attractive amber to bluish hues to it. Those that know the series will appreciate the strike isn’t all that shabby either. Coin 2 has eye appeal out th ying -yang. Question to the forum is which one would you keep for your set?

I would keep the second one. Not because of the color, the strike is way better.
As you well know, there has not been a fully struck 1927-D found to this day.

I like the first coin better.

Depends on the goal of your Set building
The strike is better on nmbr 2, especially on "Liberty", have to to nmbr 2 thanks rln
I prefer the first coin.
obviously, you must keep both, buy a third, and then ask us again
and don't tell your wife about any of this
If I could choose only one of the two regardless of the 'numbers,I would take #2 in a heartbeat. Numbers are just numbers. To me eye appeal and strike are the most important aspects of a coin. I guess that is why they say 'grading is subjective. Jmho.
I will keep the AU58 (the coin #2) one![ ](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
My first thought was #1....then I took a closer look at the strike...#2 is better. Why not keep both and start a herd?
I would keep the one that matches my set the best. I have often "downgraded" coins so that the replacement matches the set's appearance. Regarding the two coins above, both are nice, but I refer the eye appeal from the image of #2.

I prefer #1
Beyond luster or color I would keep #2 as the first thing I see looking at #1 is the mild carbon issue starting at the feather and ending on the nose. AU58 & MS64 are both sub Gem grades so unless your doing a strict Gem set a slider would not look out of place.
I like #1 better.
I prefer the first coin.... appears to have a tad more detail. Cheers, RickO

I would keep looking and likely sell both of those. I would lean towards the first coin since I like MS better but the strike issue and the spot on the nose would always bug me. Coin 2 also has some obverse spots. I would keep looking for this date.

Do you think he knows something?
Otherwise, he just may be cranky. I have not seen a post from the Colonel in over a week and was getting worried!
I like #1 better - luster appears to be much better, which makes sense given we are comparing a 64 to a 58.
Second one is very pretty-that's the one I'd keep.
It's not an option but Obverse 2, Reverse 1, and I don't know why.
I like the first coin.

I'd keep the second one. That color is attractive and hard to find when it is natural. The coin is also well struck. Of the the price could influence your decision. I find it hard to pay more for an AU-58 than an MS-64 if the 64 really is Mint State.
I've been faced with similar dilemmas and have resolved them by keeping both. My sets tend not to have striking toning, but I have a small stash of really special toned duplicates. If you must dispose of one, I would say depends on the look of your set.
I'd keep the 64.

I like the obverse of the first coin with the reverse of the 2nd coin?! I guess I prefer the 1st coin overall but can see why you are in a quandary about it.
