Sacagawea Dollars - Time to Go!

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't wait for this coin series to stop. These coins, along with the presidential dollar coins, tone way too fast unless you have them in capsules. I was glad the presidents stopped and won't miss the Sacagawea coins when they go away. I collect them now because I have the series, but argh!

I like 'em! I just wish they'd return the date to it's rightful place on the obverse of the coin.
+1.
I don't collect them, but this series is more artistically pleasing than most recent commems. If you want to protect your collectible coins, spend a few cents to preserve them. All my collectible coins are in either slabs or capsules.
Every dollar coin sold is sold above face.
I'm not sure when the differing reverse designs end, but I don't see Congress ending the dollar coin. They have not ended the half dollar.
Congress has the dollar coin written in as a coin to be made. The design changing part is in a different paragraph. Once that is over, the dollar still must be made via the earlier, first, paragraph.
Things with this series would benefit greatly by the discontinuation of the $1 bill. It will never serve as a useful currency until that happens. I think a $2.50 and $5 coin with a bi-metallic composition would be an idea, too.
And discontinuing the one cent coin!
Yes-that too-for sure!
It’s a rare thread indeed when a collector complains a coin tones too fast.
But yes, I agree that a $2.50 Cent coin would be really cool. I think it would actually get used!
Yea, I'm not a big fan of toned coins. I know a lot of folks are, but I just can't get into them.
Maybe a $2 coin, but I think a $2.50 coin would generate a lot of confusion, given today's declining math skills.

I collect them but only 2000-2008 just way too many to continue past that in my opinion.
It'll take an act of congress to stop minting the $1 coin.
There is more of a chance for the cent to be discontinued, and I'm not holding my breath on that one, either...
The 2012 is my current fav..
So I guess my idea of bringing back the half cent is a bit of a stretch.....
I am holding out for a United Stated Farthing (1/4 cent).
I had a friend who tipped VERY well, normally at least 25% and often more, but if he was peeved at poor service, he would leave 1 cent in the food on the plate to ensure the wait person knew he did not forget a tip or assume it was on the charge slip, indicating the service was not worth 2 cents. He would have loved a 1/2 cent coin.
Not sure if this is deserving of an agree or LOL
They tell us bits and pieces of the past.
I wish there were a gold NA dollar about the size of our early gold dollars. And imagine we circulated them and they were worth about $150-$200. And we could pay for _____, with them.
I bet people would collect them.
Time to GO for the gold . That’s what I meant to say, in response to the thread title.
Maybe if they made them out of a different metal so it didn't tarnish so quickly?
I would love to see the cent discontinued, and, $2.50 and $5.00 coins... bring back the half dollar in circulating currency as well...Bi-metallic coins would work well...discontinue the dollar bill - for sure. Cheers, RickO
The composition is not prescribed.
The vending industry would want similar signatures from them.
They are mandated to be golden in color.
With all due respect to tjise who d9nt like tarnished coins, why does it matter if a circulating coin tarnished? All of them do, with nickel tarnish to a duller shade of the original color. Cents turn dark brown.
I once carried a pres dollar for a while and it turned a very nice medium brown with brassy highlights. It was a good looking coin.
For circulation, no reason at all. For collecting purposes, for me, I don't like toned or tarnished coins. I like them in the original state. Just my preference.
Those edge dates are the pits. I don't know what the mint was thinking. Having the date on the edge is no good for collectors who use albums.
