Was given wrong PP address to send money...need advice...Resolution in first post...
As you may recall, I was given a PP address to send FF payment to and there was a typo by the requester. I was made aware of it by the requester and he gave me the correct PP address.
Since the transaction was already completed, PP instructed me to request a return of the funds from the person to whom I sent them and if I don't get a response, open up a case, which I did.
Bottom line, PP said too bad for the seller. However, the seller fulfilled his end of the deal and sent me the item. He’s truly a standup guy. He ate it. I will not mention his name here because he probably feels embarrassed enough as it is.
We both keep appealing to the recipient in hopes he has a sudden attack of honesty and returns the money.
I truly feel sorry for the seller, but I did do as he instructed.
Lesson learned here is always proofread your posts and pay the juice and you’ll have protection for these errors.
Cheers
Bob

My first instinct tells me it's a scam. If not, the seller has the responsibility to send the item or refund since you did sent the money as requested.
If it shows as claimed, your only hope may be to email that person and politely ask for the money. If it’s unclaimed, then you can get it back.

This happened to me in December. PayPal did nothing for me. I got screwed. I hope it wasn’t big money.
You should always request a PayPal invoice to avoid this exact problem.
I would try negotiating with the person who made the error. From PayPal's standpoint, YOU initiated the payment not the other person. I'm not sure what recourse they have to even reclaim the money. I feel that the person who sent you the wrong PayPal address (rather than an invoice) is the one who should eat the loss. Of course, your ability to leverage him/her to do that is minimal.
GOOD LUCK!
Sorry scam ... all over he gave wrong address ? whose address was that ?
He left the last two letters off of his PP address so the payment went to the wrong person.
If he sent you the address and you just copy and pasted it and sent then it's on him and he is on the hook not you.
I've heard of people getting their money back in this instance and also others not, think it just depends on the honesty of the receiving party. Best of luck but regardless it wasn't your mistake and shouldn't be on you.
Good luck!
I also did a screen capture of his post giving me the wrong PP address.
If you paid with a CC on PayPal and not a balance you can always turn to your credit card. I believe PayPal will ban you but depending on the loss it may be worth it and there’s ways of getting around being banned.
Nope; it was from a bank balance.
You should be able to cancel the payment unless the wrong person somehow has a PayPal address with that same address that had the typo. The odds of that happening are usually long and I'd be wondering about the seller at this point.

That too happened to me years ago. I sent the person a note requesting a refund.........months later they responded and sent it back. Seems they don't do ebay/paypal often. Seller sent my coin (not much value) anyway.

FF request to avoid the 3% PP fee and then send the wrong email address and the funds get claimed fairly quickly? It has all the hallmarks of a scam. Hopefully, it is not, but you should be in contact with both email addresses at this point.

That’s a pickle you’re in.
Sounds like a scam and the OP is likely to get no response from the "mistaken" PP address.
For future reference I like the advice to always obtain a paypal invoice from the seller. In addition, continue to always pay using a credit card.

sorry to hear this and I hope it is just an honest mistake. I'd follow the advice given by PP in the first post and hope the person who received the funds is honest and will return them . good luck!
Let me explain how this works.
You want protection, you pay the 3%.
You do not want the protection, then you take FF.
You made your choice, no use in coming to these boards to "advertise a scam" as there are very real protections against this that YOU choose to by-pass. Live and learn. As a buyer, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER offer to pay FF.
You don't need you to explain how this works. All I asked for was information on the process with PP; I never said anything about a scam. You don't have to be a condescending pratt about it.
There is a little attitude here, but the main premise is correct. As a buyer, NEVER offer to FF. Even more, as a buyer you should refuse to do business with anyone who asks for FF.
And, as someone else also mentioned: NEVER pay with a PayPal balance. As a part-time dealer, I've had as much as $10k in my PayPal account. I always withdraw the cash and make purchases on a credit card so I can issue a charge back if I had to.
I did it once but luckily it turned up to be non-existed address so it went unclaimed. You may be able to point the mistake on the seller side since incorrect info was provided in the first place.
The hard fact is "possession is 9 / 10 of the law" sort of speak. Good luck!!!
So the email that you sent it to has a PAYPAL account? at least you have their email address, you can write a nice email and they may return it. Say something like it was a birthday gift for your niece/nephew to buy a new XXXX. Usually when I get a wrong email, the money stays 'unclaimed' and it is only 1 button away from cancelling and return the money to my account.
I suggest contacting the Bank to determine if the funds have been claimed and drawn.

The first scam indicator is that a mis-typed e-mail address actually worked. What are the chances of that? I hope you can recover it.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Agree, particularly since it sounds like not only did the email address work, it was already registered with PayPal. Presumably PayPal would have simply returned your funds to you if it went to an unregistered account.
Sorry to hear what happened. Good luck!
Yes this sucks and is a likely scam. My takeaway is always the same. FF are for Friends and Family and only Friends and Family.

FF means financial fraud
Paypal is an Awesome company with fantastic seller and buyer protection, IF you follow their rules.
Pay the darn fee ........
Correct

It's business matters. 3% turns out to be a small amount, for insurance. Unless you know someone as trusted as Friends and Family (and we know that means we probably will get shortchanged there) , that may as well be considered gifting money.
I don't think you're screwed just yet. Is it a legitimate Pay Pal/ email address ? There's hope , if someone is actively engaged with such and they're honest. If not, yeah.... you're probably screwed.
Best of luck resolving this and let us know the results.

Ever the optimist, I'm hoping it was just an honest mistake.
Sounds like your friend or family member is ripping you off.

Sorry to hear this Bob.... I wish you the best of luck getting a favorable solution. Cheers, RickO
This sucks. It seems like nearly every unresolved issue lately resolves around the lack of PayPal protection.
Sorry you experienced this but for me it is a pungent reminder.
PAYPAL takes the money right away. If they do not have an account associated with that email address, they will hold the money for 30 days before returning it to the sender.
PP is going to point out that you sent money to a friend or family member.
As a huge courtesy to our customers we don't charge a fee for this.
We did exactly what you asked us to do.
You sent it to the "wrong address" and that's on you.

Sounds like he should send you the item, and you will resend the $ once you get it back from paypal.
I'm not sure you can call this a lack of PayPal protection. The OP willingly sent a payment (in cash) to the email address in question. There is no reason for PayPal to reverse the transaction. I would be more concerned if PayPal DID REVERSE the transaction. It would mean that every sale I made is subject to arbitrary reversal by the customer.
If the seller demanded Paypal "Friends & Family" transfer to avoid the fee, and the buyer was knowingly complicit in doing this, there would seem to be no recourse if the money were lost. Both parties appear to have violated the Paypal terms of use, and to have done so at their own risk.
If it's a trusted member here it wouldn't be an issue. If it's sol15g then... you gave a free loan at best...
Not trying to be nosey but was it a transaction from the PCGS boards? Just don't want to make the same mistake.
And by the way, good luck. Hope you get a refund and / or eventually the merchandise you were attempting to purchase in the first place.

I have only used PP a few times and it's been a while since last used.
Am I right in that when you input the recipients email, the recipients name is displayed?
If so, was it what you expected?
Hope you come out on the good side of this. Sounds fishy to me too.

Can the bank help out to REVERSE the transaction? Call your bank to see if they can help.
Again, the "unprotected" curse of PPFF strikes again. How much more warnings do buyers and sellers need, not to go that route on business transactions?
I thought he had sold many lots on here with happy buyers.
Also your sig picture has been broken ever since photobucket took everyone's hosted pictures hostage.

Call PP and see if they can help you out. Theoretically one could make an honest mistake on a legit FF transfer and instead of Uncle Morrie receiving money for a cremation urn, it could go to another Paypal recipient based on an erroneous email address entry.
