Personally I think the design is stupid. Thought it might grow on me but it did not. To me it is a resemblance of a woman in slavery not Miss Liberty. I guess I'm too used to the original designs.

It is entirely appropriate that this image of Liberty should remind you of a former slave as the concept of Liberty has far more meaning to such a person than to most of us.
Actually, I think it's a bit racist for it to make someone think of slavery. There is nothing inherently slave-like about the image. The racial ethnotype is mildly African, but if someone with African features (or skin tone) makes someone think of slavery, they have other issues.
American Liberty One-Tenth Ounce 2018 Gold Proof Coin is not a medal, it is $10 Gold coin, 1/10 oz, first of it's kind. Compared to 1/10oz Proof Eagles the mintage is a bit high. However, the mintage is far less than bullion versions of 1/10 oz eagles. They are not making any bullion versions of this coin. With that, I will buy five. The worst case scenario is if we go back to the gold standard, I can trade them for 5X my money back or more.
Another consideration is.............if they haven't minted all 135,000 yet. And no one orders these, there may only be 10,000 - 20,000 minted. Like the fractional buffalo gold coins.
They've already issued the design in a larger coin. This one will remain mainly a bullion piece, and I expect will sell accordingly in the after-market.
Isn't that 2000 orders of EVERYTHING? I mean, how many orders per day does the Mint process every day?
Yes...but
First offering of this 1/10 oz had to dominate the orders during the initial hour. There could have been 1,000 orders for those missing 20,000 Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Sets in that 12:00 to 1:00 PM ET hour but that's unlikely.
I ended up buying a few I thought the price was high but then I noticed the $200.00 price for the gold liberty dime version so I went for a few of them. I figured $15.00 was not much after all. Now I just need them to sell out!

And, so your theory is that when they sell out they'll be worth $200 like the merc?
Have you looked at the Liberty silver medal sets that the Mint is still selling for $200. They are simultaneously on ebay for $185. So, if you buy one from the Mint, you've lost $15 as soon as the order processes:
Yes jmlanzad I know I should not of, but I cant help it and I like your puppy ! Awful cute! And yes Miles I never flip I will more than likely send off for grading PCGS that is. Out of 3 I MIGHT get 1 70. But I had them over night it so when it come I will just pack the box into a box fill out the form and send off. PCGS has 18 other coins they are grading ALL Civil war age. This is just fluff! Something to fill the safe!
you can buy a ms-62 $20 St Gaudens double eagle for close to gold spot, a beautiful coin that's over 100 years old. why on earth would you spend 85 dollars over gold spot for this coin?

The number of orders is only an indication of relative interest in the coin/medal anyway. It is only comparable to previous offerings. For instance, the 2016 gold centennial dime, there were 15,500 orders in the first 15 minutes. At that rate, the number of orders not for the hot product is insignificant. (The number of orders is more relevant if there's a HHL of 1, since you can get an idea of the number of coins/medals sold.)
2000 orders in the first hour is pretty bad. HHL's will probably go soon.

Maybe they should make a special set with the 5 armed forces medals and the WWI silver dollar all for the low, low price of $500!
Or maybe they can bundle the leftover gold with the leftover silver medals from last year in a giant $500 package!
Or, even better, how about a counterstamp on the gold! All they need is a hammer and a punch and they can add $50 to the price.
Palladium proof with the gold Liberty for $2000, Alec?

I was trying to be positive. I know it wasn't going to be a quick sellout. A positive spin is better than negative thoughts.
And it was a weak attempt at humor.
If it weren't for the dealers seeking the little gems in order to jam them into the slabs and hopefully sell them at a larger price, I doubt the number would have been even close to that high.
Bless their optimistic hearts.
Well look at the bright side, at least the Mint isn't trying to sell cryptocurrentcy to you. Yet. They're still trying to dream up some sort of craptocoins that will pull you in. They've been on a losing streak for years so look for cryptosomething really soon.
i will probably only buy one mint offering this year, and maybe some Native American $1 Coins, Jim Thorpe is on the reverse, one of the best ever to play the game

He's right, of course. But the Mint COULD be more efficient. One of the things that makes it hard to be profitable for small runs of coinage is the cost of die preparation. If they used the same obverse for all the different metals (gold, silver, bronze) and kept the same reverse for years (unique to each metal), they wouldn't have to make all new tooling.
These could be a beautiful little gold coin; yet, I will wait till the graded versions are less for a 69 or just a bit more for a 70.
The price above spot considering the mintage is out of whack.

You wont have to wait long they are ready to buy for Pre-Sale let the games begin!
Come and Get Some! Now if these were the new Palladium coins from last year we would ALL be buying. But this is not the same just some ol gold! And a tiny amount at that.

I don't knowa bout all of us. I wouldn't want to pay the giant premium on the Palladium either as the coins will ultimately become bullion.
Comments
I'm in for 5. I like the stars and they seem like they are much smaller, like 10 X smaller, on this coin for some reason.
blah blah blah nada nada nada
135k sounds like a high mintage to me. How many did the Mercury one end up selling and what was the Mints price?
Don't quote me on that.
in and out. Doesn't seem like there is a big rush. USM0056145
Me too (I'm hopless)
USM056148XX
Edit to add
Well, 3,000 orders between cruisersk1 and mine
Its only 300 I was USM056145XX
This is another one to avoid. The mint is pumping out too many coins.
D'oh ! Of course, that's more reasonable Thanks.
5616xxx
Now, check my math please, that's 2,000 orders.
I'm out. Completely disinterested.
I went to the U.S. Mint website, yadda, yadda, yadda, didn't spend one red cent.
Nope....rather score some Clark pucks as they sneak out
Another looser, just like the previous ones. Not interested in any of them.

125,000 on the Merc and it was only a hair cheaper (gold was lower) at $200-ish

Way over-priced. Way too high a mintage.

LOL. There's only 14,500 "missing" sets.
this forum is not a federal document. Seems ok to use here.

I would probably buy if it was a high relief.

It’s the same diameter as the tenth oz eagles, which could make them as attractive for jewelry.
