Well we all seen the price rise from 1200 thru 1300 and selling frenzy up to 1900 thru 2100 on Ebay for 1 solid week. If not longer Had I bought a dozen I could of flipped and made money but it's easy to 2nd guess after the fact.

Hey, they sold 1,800 of 'em last week.

(By comparison, they sold 13,952 5oz Picture Rock pucks in 4 days...)

I'll spend that $$$ on the 2018 Baby Owl from Daniel Carr, and his will be lots cheaper.

I would be jealous if the coin was the actual size of the picture you took....all for $215.

    Don't quote me on that.

14k seems like a good number to me. They couldn’t even sell 3k Unc Boys Town commem gold $5 coins.

If only those snoozers had put a Beautiful Liberty on the Coin. ......

A turning point in US Mint History could have been made.

    Oh well, snoozers snooze.

I bought em. If you have the others it only stands to reason to add this one to the set.

not concerned with the 10.00 diff now the wait for them to come of the mints site in 2 years .

You guys are missing the entire point of all of this.

    She has four stars.

    She's an "expert collector".

(If this were usenet, I'd cross-post this to the "stars next to name" thread...)

I can't help but think that one day Bruce J will be the newest Liberty.

If the Mint ever really gets brainy maybe Betty Boop or Olive Oyle will be the model. Now THERE'S a Coin that would sell.

Ohhh look for just $255.00 I get me a PCGS FIRST STRIKE PF69 gold coin. Thats only $40.00 over the Mint cost of $215.00 After all if I sent my raw coin in for grading I might get a PF67 and the value would drop the coins value to $164.90 after grading.

    Seems like a NO Brainer!

I just sent of 3 of them to PCGS to be graded. I doubt any of them will make 70 but who knows. 45 day wait now for results.

It takes 45 days to determine a newly minted gem coin is a gem? lol

Actually if I give them 45 days and it only takes them 32 days then It will be a big surprise for me. Not to mention a day's work goes by so fast 5 days of work is like 2.5 days. Were that busy right now which is good keeps my mind off of time in general.

Well, I don't want to disparage this coin, but the sales... suck when compared to say, the 1/10th ozt Mercury gold commem of last year...

The coin: The rent is too darn high!
The design: The stars are too darn big!

They could have put "LIBERTY" in the headband where the godzilla stars are and put the stars (with some detail) along the perimeter. Would have made for a better classic design, IMO.

The Mint needs to cut off sales soon, then bring them back in 6 months.

    Just because they can.

    And WILL.............

    BWAhahahahaha...

Mint News Blog has an article up by Louis Golino on this coin. Not a very favorable article, but one quote made me laugh...

I also saw comments intended as a criticism of the plan to release future coins with Liberty depicted with other ethnicities such as “an Oriental or Persian. . .”

I wonder who said that? Oh, it was me...

The American Liberty is going to be released biannual. (Every odd year. Next one will be released in 2019.)

Will there be a new design each time?

Yes. My guess is an Oriental or Persian Liberty is up next. Any other guesses to the race of the 2019?

I wasn't really a criticism, Louis. It was more an educated guess. :D I'm not the one who came up with the idea of different racial Liberty representations.

At some point you can bet Brucelyn Jenner will be the model for Liberty. Maybe the Mint will really fight convention and go with a Male Martyr as Liberty. May I suggest Harvey Milk ?

Maybe. Here's the past 5 years. (Taken from sales data.)

    2013: 13,861
    2014: 13,864 (Yes, three more than 2013)
    2015: 16,851
    2016: 21,619
    2017: 11,163

There's a reason the mint capped it at 22K. If it sells out I will applaud their marketing department for selling more by saying they're limited. :)

Yes. At least I assumed Kkathyl was talking about the proof, since it was in comparison to the 1/10th AuAL...

crazy. That's why I don't deal in gold. No way to make money. Not even sure why Apmex doesn't just melt them. Can their total fees (eBay/PayPal/shipping) actually be less than $50

  • coinpalicecoinpalice Posts: 2,453 ✭✭✭✭✭

you should pick one up, they will be sold out by tonight and 10 percent bonus bucks for a coin over 100 years old. there is a small chance they bought them when gold was 500/ounce?

  • coinpalicecoinpalice Posts: 2,453 ✭✭✭✭✭

this seller is losing even more money,1,240 issue price-grading cost, seller fees and about 50 percent come back 69's.he has sold over 400 since 2014 and who knows how many he has left

Apmex? They haven't been sitting on those for 15 years. Wholesale buy is $10 over spot, currently.

Really excited about this new release! The designs look exceptional, especially the detailing on Liberty’s hair and Eagle’s wings. There’s a slight curve towards the edges which makes it look even more beautiful. Will save some money to invest in a few of these!
