1888 Indian Head Cent 8 over 7

I recently purchased an incomplete set of Indian Head Cents from someone, which had this coin in it. I was trying to determine the grade and value when I learned of the 1888 8 over 7 error. My USB microscope is not very good, but I was able to capture these images:
Any chance this is an 8 over 7? I'm leaning towards no since I don't see the bottom of the seven under the eight, but wanted to check with the experts before I give up all hope.

I vote no.
Shouldn't there be a knob at the lower left of the 8?

I'm afraid not.
This has got to be one of the most difficult (overdate?) to attribute in the Indian Head Cent series, for any coin in less than Mint State. So many are fooled by contact marks and purposeful manipulations. The lower end of the "7" which very slightly extends from under the lower left of the last "8" in the date is the best diagnostic that I know of. The authentic FS-301 shows the lower 7 emerging from the lower left 8, about even with the inside left side of the last 8 extending left to a point just slightly to the left of the "waist" of the last 8. The upper left leg of the 7 is only clear on MS or nearly MS coins under high magnification (~30x). To make matters even more confusing, Fivaz/Stanton's "Cherrypickers' Guide Volume 1" lists three other date errors; misplaced and repunched date varieties for the 1888.
Actually, it's pretty easy to attribute from the cud in the dentils at 9:00.
