2018 New Years Numismatic Goals

BoosibriBoosibri Posts: 12,359 ✭✭✭✭✭

1) Add a few top notch examples to my Latin American type set, specifically the Carlos III and Carlos IV sets

2) Add a few cool coins to my World Coins in Ealry America’s set and poopularize the set further.

3) Build out my Mexican Repulbic 8R set

4) Avoid impulse purchases

5) Continue to buy and sell cool coins from Europe with a bit more discipline and a few more buying trips this year.

What are yours?

Unfortunately I don't see any coin purchases for 2018. My wife and I just bought a piece of land a few months back and we plan on building a house in the spring. So I'll have to rely on you folks for my coin fix for the next year or so.

Try to get Broadstruck Jr. interested one more time.

Maybe sell off some duplicates which is something I've thought about for like 8 years.

Don't really need anything new as I get overwhelmed when I bring it all home from the banks just seeing how much stuff I already own.

I agree, I'll open a double row box from the bank and it's like "Christmas." I can't always remember what I own. Unfortunately, much of it might be considered as "junk."

    Finish a 1936 Proof set.

Finish my Classic Head gold sets

Get a coin for the last British king I need

Finish my "first branch mint coin" set. e.g. 1808-S Indian as the first cent made at a branch mint.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I need to add Better Record Keeping to the list as I discovered 2 extra raw boxes I fully filled I didn't recall owning.

Pursue the few remaining CWT store cards I need for my Michigan towns & cities set. And finish the research for an exhibit of those tokens. These two should take at least a year.

Buy as many net coins for my sets as I can find and afford.

Haven’t added a new DM to my CBH set in years. Time for a cherrypick?

CB half Dime set getting tough to add to, I guess I’ll focus on dimes and quarters.

I have had more fun the last two years developing my Potosi and Mexico City cob collections.

Hope to see you all at FUN. Please stop by table 217 and introduce yourself!

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

I'd like to sell a few coins next year.
I hope to find an early quarter or two, and possiby something for the type set, both tall orders because the remaining coins i need are difficult to locate, and afford.

    2. Sell some duplicate and non-conforming coins, for the first time ever.
    3. Pickup a few select silver WQ's for my registry set.

I like how you put it, my goal is the same along with:

    1. Add to my Franklin half registry set. (Never thought I'd say this)
    2. Continue to be selective in what I buy
    3. Keep reading

Well I'm going to be listing my sets on the registry tomorrow no matter what condition they are in.
I want to finish my silver Roosie set in 66FB or higher.
Going to start selling on eBay. Wish me luck.

    Later, Paul.

Head to the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Philadelphia in mid August with an old high school buddy. We’ll stop at the Reading terminal market for some great regional food. I’ll be looking for another choice IHC. It’ll be a great time in Philadelphia.

I hope to get back into the hobby a little bit. I've been mostly out of it for a while, putting all my efforts into another hobby. 2018 marks my 10 year anniversary in the hobby so I think I should actually participate, no? It also marks my 10 year anniversary of being a member of this very forum.
Spending money (as opposed to collecting money) is very tight right now due to medical concerns, but I hope to actually get to a coin show this year. I have not been to one since 2014 or 15. I'm so out of the hobby I can't even remember!

I will just meander through the year with a few choice acquisitions - unknown as yet - Learn some more interesting facts about coins and numismatics in general. Teach some people gun safety and how to shoot, maybe add to my already vast collection in that area. I look forward to 2019, hopefully in the same good health and physical condition. Cheers, RickO
