PCGS value this coin 6600 but it sold on ebay for 3333. There is always a good reason why it sold cheap. LOL

You will likely get a better response over on the World & Ancient Coin Forum.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I agree. I can look at a coin from Great Britain and probably tell that it’s no good because I’ve been dabbling with them for three years, but when it comes to China, all I can do is say it looks “cheap.”

A couple of weeks ago a collector from ATS asked me to help with a counterfeit Chinese coin he had bought in a counterfeit PCGS holder from the eBay site. I checked the serial number on the slab. Fortunately there was a photo of the real coin and they didn’t match. I also looked photos of the thing he had bought, and it looked “cheap.” It didn’t look like real coin that was made silver.

With some of these pieces you guys are posting it’s tough for a U.S. collector who is not familiar with the series.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I disagree, most experience world coin collector also read US coin forum and US coin forum have many experts. Plus this is not about world coin question it is about fake coin in third party holder that everyone should be aware of it. Don't forget China made US fake coin also show up in PCGS fake/holder

I suppose you're right. Why on earth would there be a separate World & Ancient Coin Forum when many world coin collector also read US coin forum. Maybe an email to Don Willis could just do away with any separation between world/ancient coins and U.S. coins, and just have one forum and a free-for-all for ALL coins on ONE forum.

    I'll come up with something.

Looks like a fake slab again... the clarity of the printing seems to be off. It might be the photo though...

The kerning looks off... letters are too widely spaced, unless that's just the photo, as you said.

I don't think it's so much the coin that is the point (though it is too) but the slab. That's a concern to everyone. The OP's NGC thread showed what was a fake NGC slab. The cert # was okay, but the coin/slab were not.

One thing I like ATS is how the cert lookup shows the whole slab. I don't keep up with the generations and changes so having the photo reminds me which slab it is and how the type is justified specifically for that coin helps. A lot.

I'll let the slab experts weigh in, but this one looks bad too.

why don't you do a cert number lookup and decide for yourself?

Fake . the character above dragon's left claw looks wrong.

Thing about Chinese counterfeit, modern Chinese are so use to simplified writing. When it comes to imitating traditional characters , the writing becomes so ugly. The engraver would be hang by the emperor if this was a real coin.

I would not buy from eBay when you can’t see the picture on the PCGS site. The ebay account is small too.

The coin and slab are fake, they do not match the Trueview when you look closely at the details of the letters, also the fake coin appears to have more detail in the design.

This is another reason to Trueview all coins over a certain value, which PCGS will now be doing as of Jan 2018 when coins are submitted at the Express service level or higher (over $3000 value).

The fakers will have to apply there trade to older cert# or lower value coins.

all no good. The strike on the ebay coin is a beast compared to the real one.

    very scary

may the fonz be with you...always...

Then the question mark is either extraneous or the decision is open.

OP: there are USA trade dollars and Morgans that can fool experts. I can't verify a chinese coin without clear photos (provided). You come on the US coin forum for the experts. If they are world coin experts on this forum, it is highly likely they read both.

...this doesn’t read well...add an “i” after the “o” and it will sit a little better here on the US Coin Forum ;)

I think this is the first attempt, maybe second, of a secure holder

The label is very bad. It is an obvious fake.

Definitely fake and thank you for posting it.... Whether it be world or U.S., there are collectors that seek both...therefore posts here and the World forum are appropriate, especially when dealing with issues such as this. Cheers, RickO
