I leave for Baltimore tomorrow morning (Thursday).
Can't wait!! I love coin shows. Who else is going that is not a dealer with a table?
Also, I just joined the Colonial Coin Collectors' Club. I look forward to the convention and social Thursday night. Anybody else a member?

Do you ever go to shows?
@Yorkshireman.... When I lived in Seattle, I would never miss one.... unless I was traveling on business. Even the small 15-20 table shows - I liked them, often bargains there. However, after retiring, and moving to the East Coast mountains, where there are NO shows, I have not gone to any. Sure do miss them. Cheers, RickO

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
FYI. There is one in your neck of the woods, up North in Albany at the Polish Comm. Ctr. Yearly, excluding July/Aug.
I tried to figure whether the 5 hour drive and other expenses could be justified, and had to take a pass. I hope the collectors and dealers going will make it an excellent time.
I have a 6 your drive and opted to fly. Just cheaper to just take the light rail to the convention center. $30 in gas each way, $20 in parking and hotel doesn’t work.

I just got home after spending Thursday and Friday morning at the show.
Had a super and eventful time. I will write my report tomorrow.
Will never go to Balto as I am not allowed to protect myself.

Please don't turn my post into a discussion of violence and gun control.
I have been to Baltimore numerous times, both for this show and for business. I have walked the streets there, day and night. My former investment firm employer is based in Baltimore.
I have never felt like I needed a gun.
While at the show, I walked amongst two different groups of young men that could have seemed threatening to the overtly nervous types. I carried a backpack full of coins.
Act confident, but not cocky. Don't break stride and don't look at them.
99.5% of the time, you will be fine.
I will post my show report after another cup of coffee.
Now, for my show report (dedicated to my new friend Ricko, who can't go coin shows):
In short, I had an amazing adventure!
I stayed at the Lord Baltimore Hotel about three blocks away from the convention center.
My company has a discount arrangement there. Cool hotel built in 1928.
My first stop upon arriving at the convention center Thursday morning was the Stacks Bowers lot viewing.
My current collecting passions are world coins that circulated in early America, which were not really represented in the auction, plus bust quarters and halves as well as Peace dollars, which were. My first real adventure started while I was looking through the capped bust quarters. Those who are not familiar with bust coinage may not know what a big deal overdates are in the series. If memory serves, there were three overdate quarters in the auction lineup. These were 1825/4/2's. The one which interested me most was the third. The catalog description read "1825/4/2". The slab label read "1825/3". I assumed I had found an error. The catalog photo looked like the coin in my hand, but the descriptions were different. Not knowing the series very well at all, I wondered to myself "Who messed this up?"
I told the viewing attendant that I had found a mistake. As an aside, she was a wonderfully genteel 90 year old lady named Elizabeth. She has 10 children and 24 grandchildren and can remember every one of their birthdays. Wow! Elizabeth told her supervisor, who knew nothing about obscure capped bust quarter overdates. That was not surprising. The supervisor had to summon a "coin person". Here is where my adventure gets better!
The "coin person" summoned by Christine Karstedt. I explained the situation to her.
She complimented me for finding this. Christine was surprised none of the people who had looked through the box in the days before had noticed the discrepancy. She didn't know the answer either. She took the coin over to (wait for it...) Larry Stack. Larry made a phone call and discovered an interesting entry in an early quarters reference book that set us all straight:
"1825/4/2, formerly known as 1825/3". Who knew? Both the cataloguer and the grader got it right! That part of my adventure filled my time until noon, when I could enter the bourse.
I got to meet Christine and Larry before even going to the bourse.
I was happy and honored to have gotten to talk to both of them.
Once on the bourse. I visited with some of my favorite dealers: Larry Shepherd, John Agre,
John Kralevich, and Sheridan Downey. I bought an wonderful 1924 Peace dollar in MS66 with truly amazing luster from Larry. I do mean amazing, with a capital "A"!!
While talking to both Johns, I realized that I really do like 2 reales pieces. I had thought them to be too small for my taste. I was wrong. Twos will now be included in my future hunts for world coins that circulated in early America. As of now, all of that part of my collection are big coins -
8 Reales and a Lion Daalder.
The Lion Daalder brought on the next epic part of my adventure. While I had bought it several weeks ago from CRO, I brought it with me to submit for regrading and photography.
Oh, I am so glad I did.
I saw David Lisot on the bourse floor. I have watched his videos for years, but never met him.
I stopped David to let him now how much I liked his work. We got on the subject of his "Cool Coins" videos. David asked me if I had a "cool" coin to show. My Daalder came to mind and I am thankful it was in my bag. It is the nicest one I have personally ever seen. What a cool piece of history it is. David raved about my coin. We filmed a "Cool Coins" segment for broadcast on Coin Televison at his booth in which I showed off my Daalder. Stay tuned!
David is a very nice guy. I am very glad to know him.
On the way out to catch my flight home early Friday afternoon, I decided to see one last dealer whom I thought likely to have a nice bust half or quarter. I found a nice 1819 quarter with great original skin and a little color along the edges of the obverse. It had been taken in trade and was very reasonably net priced. I wrote a check.
That new purchase raised a new dilemma. I needed the coin photographed. Todd Pollock of BluCC Photos does my photos of coins that don't have True Views. Todd had taken photos of some other stuff for me earlier in the day. I needed it done quickly as I had to get to the airport.
Todd had just sat down to a late lunch of pizza. I pleaded that he do my new coin after his first slice. He was nice enough to do it so I could make it to the airport and home. What a nice guy.
Todd, if you read this, I am truly grateful!
You should use Todd to take photos of your coins. You will be glad you did. Todd does great work. I will post photos of my NEWPS as soon as I get them.
I grabbed my suitcase from the bag check desk and hurried to the train and then to the airport.
Made it to my gate with 5 minutes to spare. Whew!
This was a wonderful and productive trip. A real adventure, like I wrote earlier. I met some new people and brought home two new coins. Who couldn't be happy with that?!?

Thanks for the report. And on the "1825/4/2, formerly known as 1825/3" seems more like a technicality. I have had a few of those. Just returned early this morning. Spent two days at the show. I live in the Midwest and normally my only East coast visit is FUN. But I have always wanted to attend the Baltimore show, finally made it. Great show living up to all my expectations
Purchased a very nice 53 13-S half. Tough half to find in original high grade circ. Also reaquired a nice 93-s half in 45. Beautiful original problem free coin. Picked up a few other miscellaneous coins.

Great report and nice NewPs. I love a flashy Peace lady and the Philly 24s are a great place to find them. One of these years we’ll bump into each other at a show. It will be much easier if I’m actually there.

Did you catch either of the CCCC talks on Friday? I'm very sorry that I missed the one on the Colonial Williamsburg Colonial coin collection at 11 - got stuck in traffic. I did catch the one on the change from state to fed coinage at 2 pm which was just excellent.
Funny that you mention Elizabeth. I got to talking to her when viewing the Pogue collection in the Spring. What a wonderful person. What a blessed life. I so enjoyed speaking with her. Such a wonderful, rich life that she has and does have.
Already looking forward to the next Balto show.

I forgot to include news about the Colonial Coin Collectors Club to my original report.
I did not attend the Friday talks. I did, however, attend the social on Thursday night.
Thank you to club officers Jack Howes and Charlie Rohrer as well as other members for the hospitality. Good food too!
David Bowers gave a very interesting presentation about colonial coin collecting and some of his favorite pieces of the era. I learned quite a bit. What a wealth of knowledge that man is,

I've got a humorous show update. A second tier TPGS employee said they got over 4000 submissions at the show. Yet, their table was "dead" and they were seen shipping boxes stuffed with paper back west. LOL. Be looking for even lower submission rates and specials real soon. We need to keep this place around! I've even sent them business.
Great report Yorkshireman and some nice new additions to your coin collection. I have always wanted to go to Balto, but like others I have the fear factor.
