I wouldn't be surprised if that coin came from a large group of 1919 Lincolns that Bowers & Merena marketed back in the early 1980s. My recollection is that they were very nice looking coins and very sharply struck. This was in the pre-slab era.
291 fifth- No , I bought 3 shotgun rolls of 1919 Lincoln cents around 1990. Of the first 10 coins
I submitted to PCGS , 8 came back as ms68 reds. Later I submitted 5 Ms 68 reds to PCGS of which one was clearly superior and it came back as Ms 69 red. The coin today is in the same OGH today .

Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Was there some risk in that later viewers than you might be careless??
I'd be nervous......

Lakesamman - when I saw the coins they were already out of the rolls. I had seen many coins graded Ms 67 red. 1909 vdb’s ,1909, 1925 etc. These coins were special. Even today, almost 30years later, there is not any other wheat cent with as many specimens graded Ms 68 red.
Broadstruck - I respect JA’s opinion. After he looked at my Lincoln’s from 1909 - 1934
his comment was that PCGS should use my set as a grading set when they grade early Lincoln cents.
I don’t sleep very well since I had knee replacement surgery but this is a coin forum.

Love the strike on that baby!!!
Doesn't need cac recognition.
Pre-bay.
I don't see any tics any where on that coin.......could it possibly 70 someday?
Stunning! To have an early Lincoln come back graded that high is unbelievable!

RE:

No, if that were possible JA would have given the coin a gold sticka...
What did the shotgun rolls set you back??
Lakesammen- much less than the value of the Ms 69 red
I paid a record price for the coins at the time. $ 12,000
That's an onto the deck whopper, neck beard detail is crazy good, like to see detailed in pics. :ThumbsUp
I never tire seeing that monster.
I'm not as enchanted with the green bean as I am with the coin ...
It's one of my all time faves.
This place is the best because ...

There is a tic on "E" in AMERICA on the reverse. It's a stunning coin, but not a perfect one.
Maybe 69+.
It's only right that the finest Lincoln on the planet get a bean!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
If it wasn't Stu who posted this I would be laughing uncontrollably right now. Nice job.
.
I see my question was already answered.
Very nice coin. Lincoln has a beard!
That's an all-time classic. Stuart, what ever happened to Jack's 68? He claimed it rivaled your 69.

That's outrageously nice

What's this coin worth approximately?
It's so nice it looks like a modern replica strike!

How do you preview expensive rolls of coins??

This is the most pristine image of a Lincoln Cent I have ever seen. Would love to see it in person.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
Crack it and go for a 69 plus!!!
You forgot to mention it stickered while you sat on JA's shoulders & massaged his scalp
Curious how stickering has affected you....
Are you sleeping far better now that JA likes your cent?
