1893 Morgan - Genuine or Altered Date?

Hi folks,

I'm curious to get your opinions on whether you think this is a genuine 1893 Morgan or not. I may be overly paranoid because of how many fakes and scams I've seen recently, but the "3" of the date looks a bit weird to me.

Anyhow, here are the pics:

I'm new to looking at Morgan's but just a quick search and I see the 3's look different on graded Morgan's so I would say altered date.

Look like an altered 1898 to me. Looks kind of like tooling marks.

Doesn't look like the 1893 dollars pictured in PCGS Coin Facts or NGC Coin Explorer. It could very well be a altered 1898.

It's altered; and not even close. Here it is compared to a legitimate 1893 that Heritage sold.

Not a match at all, definitely altered, just like these two 'Twins'.

An 1893-P sells for enough of a premium over an 1898-P to make the date alteration worthwhile. Some crooks, like the Chinese counterfeiters, are happy to get half a loaf instead of grabbing the whole thing. A fake 1893-P might fly under the radar better than a fake 1893-S. The super key date coin will get more scrutiny.

Reminds me of the time many decades ago when I was wrongly tempted and hired a man to turn back my odometer. He drilled a hole, turned it back, then capped the hole he made with an off color button.

Needless to say, it was so obvious what had happened, it would have fooled no one. Leaned my lesson.

Only a neophyte would be fooled by that date alteration.

It does not matter, the coin is too ugly to own in either case.
