In my opinion the mint has hit a home run with this design in ultra high relief. I find them extremely attractive.

Looks a little cartoonish to me, but has potential. These were not US mint, right?

That is one of my favorite classic designs.

NHS indicates it might have been put out by the National Historic Site.

    Are you sure?
I see these medals for sale at GovMint.com (a private website)
    https://govmint.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Silver+Winged+Liberty
but not at usmint.gov (the actual US Mint website).

It looks incredible! According to the linked article above it says these were struck by the Royal Mint in Wales. However, you got yours from the US Mint? When were they available? VERY COOL medal!

Yep I bought it from the mint. It's also in their catalog .

Your right, my mistake, Wales. You can buy yourself one right now before they run out. I think only 10,000 minted in silver and 1000 minted in gold.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. They are INCREDIBLE for sure. The execution of the design is stunning.

If you buy them ungraded they're 97 bucks. This one is ungraded.

Just FYI ...............Looks like they also are offering a "low relief" version in BU for under $30 for those who don't want to shell out for the high relief.

I'm considering the silver UHR. The gold UHR would be a treat.

I'm glad they put together an all-star cast to make this including:

    • Engraving by John Mercanti, retired U.S. Mint Chief Engraver
    • Authorization by St. Gaudens National Historic Site

Since this is issued by a National Historic Site, it looks like this could be considered an official US government issue.

I like the Roman numerals! I like that it's a St. Gaudens' design. I don't like Liberties' wings, they seem lopsided. I've also seen this at govmint.com but it's also a pass for me.

I found this in a 2012 CoinTalk article regarding the original 1905 Saint-Gaudens plaster design:

Looks like she had a shield in her left hand, and the date up top (instead of LIBERTY).
    https://cointalk.com/threads/saint-gaudens-cent-an-almost-coin.207568/

P.S. I consider the URL "GovMint.com" to be a deceptive name, too similar to usmint.gov.

The GovMint rendition is similar to what ASG had previously envisioned for the double eagle. I travel to the ASGNHS quite often and have taken thousands of images of the works on display. Something I typically take images of is the handwritten notes of ASG as my daughters are always amazed at how my handwriting and sketches are so similar to the style of ASG. Here are images of an early plaster mock-up of the double eagle with notes-

Would love to see a version with the shield Dan!

Also good to mention the other versions. Here's one done in 2002 by Liberia along with the gold Mercanti UHR.

It is interesting the note the little headdress on Ms. Liberty which fortunately disappeared on the final design. That was per Theodore Roosevelt’s wishes that a headdress be included in the designs.

I was looking at pictures of these again the other day. The marketing materials and the Coin World article indicate that the GovMint version was sculpted by former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. But looking at the photo (below) this sculpting just doesn't look like it meets Mercanti standards (especially Liberty's body), so I have my doubts about who actually sculpted it.

I think I like the Liberia version better, although neither one really captures what the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle would have been like if the wings were retained.

I still find it incredibly beautiful. But I’d also like to see some more versions of winged liberty. Great design in my book.
Maybe you should do one, Dan :)
