Although the Morgan could go 63 if the hints of hairlines in that photo are actually there.

Significant abrasion of the fields and high points. Does not qualify as "About Uncirculated" regardless of grade inflation and stretching. It is a very nice, high-end EF and worth a premium price as such.

That's one of them graded. Fwiw, that Barber half was graded higher than XF back when I started buying them in 1972. Too much luster and very minimal rub.

If that's an EF, I'll eat the S.O.B.! (Without hot sauce for flavor, I might add.)

The half will be graded AU 58 but it has been dipped. I wouldn't pay 58 money for it.

Not my series, but even I would pay EF money for it though.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

When grades at 65 and higher are at stake, an in hand look is better than grading an image that just may not be reflective of the real appearance of the coin. The top 1903-o looks better but it may have been captured in the right light and angle to bring out the best qualities. The lower coin just was not captured in the most favorable light. So did the top coin receive a higher grade? Possibly... And perhaps they both graded 65 with one at the higher end of what is acceptable for the grade.

As for the Barber... Looks to be an impressive strike. Looks dipped which magnifies light hairlines which is likely why there are a significant number of opinions at 58 and lower.

Well the way people guess the grades around here I will go VF on the Half and AG on the Dollar. Seems to be up to par when a person Knows Nothing about the Series. Hope I am correct.

I'm not concerned about "how it graded;" interested in what it really is by the so-called standards of numismatics from the 1970s -- before + and * and stickers got past the abilities of collectors to carefully examine and evaluate for themselves. I realize it's a futile venture, but possibly there are one or two folks who might decide to learn more and thereby gain better control of what they do.
