What do you think about my new purchase 1916 D Mercury

BIGBEN7BIGBEN7 Posts: 395 ✭✭✭

I have been in and out of coins and sports cards for the last 30 years. I have just recently started to get back into coins again. I mostly just collect Lincoln cents but always wanted this coin. Decided to pull the trigger today.

This is my first Mercury dime I have purchased and probably my only one.

Wow!! Great choice for a first Mercury Dime. You got the big one out of the way for building a posssible set. It's all down hill from here. :)

VERY nice coin. You did well by starting with the most difficult of the series.

Perfect for the grade. Really nice one that you don't need to improve on later (unless you wanted to build an all-AU set.) Enjoy it!

Excellent key date. I read what your post said about this likely being your only Mercury, however, please be advised that completing the rest of the series would involve a handful of somewhat tougher dates (the 1921s and the 26-s), other earlier dates in your condition range would be fun hunts at shows, and the later dates are available in your grade range at a very nominal uptick from melt. Suffice to say, you could have a lot of fun in completing this set. The Mercury series is weird in that the 16-D key is so so much more expensive than any other issue in the series. Beautiful 16-D.

If I was looking to purchase a 16-D, I would have done the same ting you did. For me, a more detailed key is a must.

You pulled the trigger...........Don't look back.

    Congrats to you!

Nice looking coin. I reviewed the PCGS photo grade pics of VF 25/30/35 Mercs for a bit of extra instruction. And I really couldn't tell them apart. For me, this is a tough grade range.

It looks to be a very nice. Most of the examples that you see are in AG-3 with the rims worn into the letters. I've seen so many of those that they frankly bore me. It's great to see one in the middle grades. Congratulations! :)
